At the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, Jaguar North America unveiled the 2017 iteration of the Jaguar XE, featuring key updates and new specifications. After a limited global release of the MY2016 Jaguar XE, the compact sports sedan has received critical acclaim both from owners and auto journalists alike as one of the most dynamic vehicles on its class.
As for the MY2017 Jaguar XE, the sedan will be available to buyers in the United States and Canada at launch. Updates on the sedan include the availability of a torque on-demand all-wheel-drive powertrain and an array of optional infotainment and driver assistance technologies like a Driver Condition Monitor.
Updates also include features like Apple Watch connectivity. The unveiling of the 2017 Jaguar XE was held at Hollywood's Raleigh Studios in California in conjunction with the launch of The Art of Performance Tour: Lights. Camera. Drive! -- a seven-city cross-country tour that invites people to get a closer look at Jaguar's line-up for the model years 2016 and 2017.
These models include the Jaguar F-PACE. The tour also allows people to drive the Jaguar XE around six months before the carmaker commences its sale in mid-2016. The aluminum-intensive Jaguar XE, with a starting price of just $34,900 – is Jaguar's new entry point to Jaguar ownership, joining the 2016 Jaguar XF mid-size sedan and 2016 Jaguar XJ full-size luxury sedan.
Jaguar XE is underpinned by the new JLR modular vehicle architecture that also underpins the new XF mid-size sedan and the F-PACE performance SUV that was recently unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. JLR's modular vehicle architecture allows the carmaker to explore design possibilities that had been deemed impossible to achieve on bespoke platforms.
All XE models feature a roomy and comfortable cabin laden with exquisite materials and finishes, treating the front occupants to a cockpit-like feel thanks to a deep center console. During startup, the instrument panel dials and the cluster needle sweep to further emphasize the XE's sports sedan attributes.
Giving the XE's cabin a premium feel are elements like fine-grain leathers and contrasting twin-needle stitching as well as a choice of gloss black, textured aluminum, and contemporary wood veneers. The cabin is made more interesting with the availability of ambient lighting in up to 10 colors.
For a more enjoyable ride and handling, JLR gave the new Jaguar XE a sophisticated double wishbone front suspension with light and stiff aluminum front spindles. JLR employed a patented production process to forge these spindles from cast blanks.
On the other hand, the vehicle's rear suspension comes with an integral link system also featured in the Jaguar XF, delivering lateral and longitudinal stiffness for a more precise handling and a comfortable ride. Likewise, the XE comes, as standard, with the electric power assisted steering (EPAS) that is also installed in the F-TYPE sports car. EPAS does not only help the sports sedan to become lighter and but provides a more consistent on-road driving feel through the steering wheel.
