The Lexus IS 300 five-passenger luxury sport sedan is nothing short of hot. It is sizzling with performance-laden power thanks to a 3.5-liter V6 engine that provides 255 hp of max output and 236 lb-ft of peak torque available between 2,000 rpm and 4,800 rpm. It is also oozing with luxury and sportiness. Hot indeed!
To make the Lexus IS 300 much hotter – at least in terms of looks -- the people at Lexus collaborated with Huy Fong Foods, a known maker of the iconic Sriracha chili sauce. No, they don’t plan to pour Sriracha chili sauce onto a Lexus IS 300. That would be an insane idea.
But wait, Lexus did actually try to add Sriracha onto the paint that would serve as the exterior finish of this one-off Lexus IS 300 all-wheel-drive sedan. Insane as it is, but sometimes crazy ideas are needed to achieve something fresh and appealing, especially if it is to catch the attention of visitors to the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show being held at the LA Convention Center. And Lexus sure did turn many heads with this creation.
To give the Sriracha Lexus IS 300 the hot looks that it needed, Lexus turned to West Coast Customs, a famous custom car company that was featured in the first four seasons of the MTV’s Pimp My Ride television series. West Coast Customs wasted no time in creating a unique paint color that resembles Huy Fong Foods’ Sriracha chili sauce.
The custom car company succeeded in creating a distinct burnt orange-red color dubbed as “Sriracha Red.” This paint features a "flex of chili-like flakes" as well as a prominent clear coat that mimics the bottle in which the chili sauce is contained. This custom paint is contrasted by green accents on the grille, exhaust tips, mirrors and brake calipers – thereby mimicking the bottle’s cap.
Inside, the Sriracha Lexus IS 300 features seats with red and green inserts as well as bright red seat heater buttons with little flames above the seat icons. In addition, the Sport mode is now named as "Sriracha" mode.
It also features sriracha-like resin steering wheel. In addition, the key fob for this Lexus IS a chili button that dispenses Sriracha sauce! That’s hot driving -- in another sense of the word! In case, an onlooker is still unsure of the nature of this Lexus IS 300, he or she could take look at rear end of the car and find “Sriracha” -- written in the usual Lexus font – on the left flank of the plate panel.
And if one thinks that the Sriracha Lexus IS 300 is not hot enough, he or she could open the trunk and indulge in 43 bottles of rear Huy Fong Foods’ Sriracha chili sauce!
