Mercedes-Benz USA has announced the release of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLE43 SUV. In addition to being the ninth model of the new AMG 43 range, the GLE43 will, by the early part of the 2017, replace the GLE400 as the performance-oriented version.

While this newest offering is indeed a family vehicle that is both practical and luxurious, it is equipped with the latest in driver assistance and safety technologies, as expected from the brand. The inside offers enough space for five adults to sit in comfort with the cargo space at the back of the rear seats offering 38.2 cubic feet. With the seats lowered, the space increases to 80.3 cubic feet.

Occupants are likely to enjoy being inside the GLE43 given that the front seats have been heated and a power sunroof is available, both fitted as standard. Additionally, the ventilated seats come with three cooling and heating levels. There is even a heated steering wheel being offered.

As mentioned earlier, the GL43 is fitted with a host of the latest safety technologies, active and passive. Automatic braking is, of course, a standard. It will also have the safety systems known as PRE-SAFE and ATTENTION ASSIST. The former system in particular determines if a collision is likely to happen and activates the needed measures just before the actual impact in order to protect everyone inside.

These include the sunroof being closed, raising the side windows, and even tightening the seat belts in the front. There will be the Premium 3 Package to be offered with the Driver Assistance Package having the BAS PLUS with Cross Traffic Assist, DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist, PRE-SAFE Brake, PRE-SAFE PLUS, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Active Blind Spot Protection.

Interior Design

The interior has a number of connectivity and multi-media features like the high-resolution color screen with an 8-inch display and the COMAND that offers the use of an intuitive touchpad. Music can be enjoyed to its fullest with the harman/kardon LOGIC7 sound system being fitted as standard. Offered as an option however is a premium sound system coming from Bang & Olufsen BeoSound.

For the driver, there is the AMG Dynamic Select System which can change the idle speed, throttle mapping, transmission shift points, and stiffness of the suspension, in order to adapt to any situation. Through this system, the driver can choose from different modes which include Comfort, Individual, Slippery, Sport, and Sport+.

Included as well is the mbrace Connect package which comes together with complimentary access worth five years to the Roadside Assistance Connection. Under the package there is also, among others, diagnostics data and remote update, remote start, and remote door unlock/lock. The package can be upgraded to the Concierge, Entertain, and Secure.

Powertrain

Under the hood, the GLE43 is powered by the bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine which has been enhanced by AMG allowing it to deliver an output of 362 hp and maximum torque of 384 lb.-ft. The power is then transmitted to the road through the automatic 9-speed 9G-TRONIC transmission, standard in all of the AMG 43 models.

With the exception of the SLC43 Roadster, all the other models will have the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive, AMG Sport Suspension, AMG braking system, and AMG- tuned steering, to name a few.
