MINI revealed that it will be premiering its 2017 Countryman during the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, specifically on November 18, 2016. The MINI, as a brand, has long been known for following tradition. With the 2017 MINI Countryman, the brand is revealing what may be the most versatile and, likely, the biggest, offering in its 57 years of operation.
In addition to being newly developed, the 2017 Countryman shows innovations when it comes to premium qualities, a sporty appearance, space, and functionality. Through this new model, the brand hopes to move its strategy forward under the premium compact segment.
When fitted with the all-wheel drive system the MINI Countryman is able to attain excellent figures with regards to efficiency. The all-wheel drive is available to all engine types as an option. This newest AWD boasts of being compact while being able to deliver on a new level when it comes to internal efficiency. The brand revealed that the AWD system can even react fast and do so in a precise manner should the situation change.
In terms of components, the AWD system is made up of three main parts. The first is a power take-off unit that has been incorporated to the differential in the front axle, with the second a propeller shaft that leads to the axle in the rear. Meanwhile the third is a hang-on clutch which is responsible for making sure that the drive torque that is transmitted to the rear wheels is measured accurately.
Since the electronic control is linked to the Dynamic Stability Control, or DSC, the system is able to determine if there is a need to distribute power even at an early stage. What this means is that with this, the ALL4 is able to optimize stability and traction particularly in adverse road condition surfaces, or even adverse weather for that matter.
The AWD system also helps enhance agility especially during curves. To sum everything up, the new MINI Countryman has more powerful proportions as overall length has been increased by 20 cm compared to the previous model. Versatility and space has been increased including the inclusion of five seats. The tailgate is now electronically controlled meaning that opening and closing it is a touch-less operation. Then there is the MINI Picnic Bench which is a loading sill cushion that can be folded and offers sitting comfort especially for outdoor events.
Performance is better with the new generation of engines and the gearboxes paired to them, all of which have been optimized for efficiency and offered with the AWD as an option. For the interior, the central instrument now has touchscreen capability. A MINI Find Mate features ensures that everything needed is accounted for inside the vehicle, or at the very least in plain view.
Meanwhile the MINI Connected App serves as a personal assistant that can help with day-to-day travel. Of course, there is also the MINI Country Timer which can measure driving fun especially when going over demanding terrain.
Finally, the MINI Countryman is offering the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 variant, the brand’s first ever vehicle with the plug-in hybrid drive. The 2017 MINI Countryman is expected to be launched in the European market by February 2017. Then starting March 2017, this model will then be released to other markets.
