A manual transmission arguably brings more excitement to the person behind the wheel. Here’s some good news to those who have been waiting for Audi to release the latest word on the A5 and S5 coupes. Much to our surprise, the Audi A5 is not the only Audi model that will have the six-speed manual sticks. The two-door coupe (A5) and the four-door variant (A4) will both come with manual transmission. If there’s more, these two different variants will also be sharing the same type of engine.
The new S5 model will have the powerful 354 hp engine and is capable of producing up to 369 pound feet of torque. Expect the two Audis to come with larger wheel arches, bolder shoulders and more distinctive outlines. Also, both the S5 and A5 models will be receiving a much wider grille design.
It goes without saying that the new A5 will also arrive in the US. The same model will feature the 252hp, 273lb-ft of torque turbocharged engine in four cylinders. Both 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch transmissions are included in the new line-up.
This would allow the A5 to go from 0-60 miles per hour in as short as 5.6 seconds. In line with this, Audi will be offering a manual transmission for the A4 sedan, which they will equip with the same engine as that of its two-door brother.
S5 on the other hand will be having an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This coupe is capable of producing 369 lb-ft of torque at 1,350 rpm. Combining this torque with its 354hp can launch the Audi S5 from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
The Audi Quattro all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring will bring power to both A5 and S5 models. The A5 will be equipped with adaptive suspensions for better comfort. As with all Audis, the driver can adjust the ride and handling when using the adaptive sports suspension. This can be used when adjusting the 2018 Audi A5 model’s ride height by at least an inch. The steering ratios are also customisable with the help of Audi’s dynamic steering option.
Above all, Audi’s latest safety features and technologies will come with the new A5/S5 models. Standard features like the panoramic sunroof and LED interior lighting system are also included on both coupes. The latest MMI touch system will be featured on Audi’s A5 line. Audi’s lane assist and the new Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster are available as options.
