Three-row Lexus RXL SUV will be on display at the 2017 LA Auto Show

Automakers typically release teasers online before any new vehicle’s live debut. After the previews of the Mazda6 and the BMW X3, it’s now Lexus that has shared images of its three-row RXL SUV that will soon make its way to US soil. There’s no doubt about it. This Lexus RXL is the longer Lexus car that we have all been waiting for.

It has been a while since we first heard rumours about a larger and more luxurious Lexus RX, and finally, we will see the extended SUV at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. Both models, namely the RX 350L and RX 450hL, were both teased in a duo of images. However, these images don’t give us a lot of information when it comes to its final look.

Before today, the Lexus was already rumoured to appear in its hometown during the Tokyo Motor Show. But that never came to pass and it seems like they would rather bring the new SUV to North America. Similar to the current RX, sources say that the new RX 350L will ride on the same platform as today’s RX, but with a little increase in rear overhang.

Now with a longer body, the rear window will be moved further towards the back. The new SUV will also have a third row of seats. But what will remain the same is the size of the current rear tailgate opening. A few months ago, spy shots of the extended version of the RX were taken and published. Back then, it already previewed the proposed update, but of course, it was camouflaged.

Lexus said in a statement that after 20 years, the Lexus RX’s stylish figure will remain. Apart from style, the company ensures that its vehicles will continue to provide more flexibility for front and rear passengers.

We are expecting to see two versions of the stretched Lexus RXL. These examples include a standard gas-powered RX 350L, as well as a hybrid RX 450hL. The former will be equipped with the same 3.5 liter V6 engine that delivers 295 horsepower (219 kilowatts) and that works with an eight-speed automatic. On the other hand, the latter will carry the same 308 horsepower (229 kilowatts) hybrid engine that returns 30 average mpg. Apart from these two, sources say to expect another 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder that may be offered for the SUV.

What more could you ask for, now that there’s a 7-seater Lexus SUV? Those who would like to check out the extended Lexus RXL personally could go check out the Los Angeles Auto Show, which starts on November 27.

In other news, Lexus bosses said that they are planning to release a small SUV that is based on the UX concept that we saw at last year’s Paris Motor Show.
