The 2014 Kia Sorento has arrived at the LA Auto Show showing not only a brand new design but also plenty of new stuff. The biggest surprise is that the 2014 Sorento has more than 80 percent of its parts new or significantly redesigned. In terms of design, the new Sorento features new front and rear fascia but also an overhauled interior.
A 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder engine is now found as standard on the LX and EX models, replacing the previous 2.4-liter MPI 4-cylinder. The new engine delivers 191 hp and 181 lb.-ft. of torque. Still, the LX and EX models can have, as an option, a bigger engine.
The 3.3-liter GDI V6 engine, found as standard on the LX V6, EX V6, SX and SX Limited models, delivers 290 hp and 252 lb.-ft. of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels or, optionally, to all four wheels using the Torque On Demand all-wheel drive system. No matter what engine you will choose, the 2014 Sorento comes as standard with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Moreover, the Electric Motor Driven Power Steering replaces the hydraulic unit from the 2013 model. New available FlexSteer offers drivers a choice of three steering modes: Comfort, Normal and Sport. Inside, the EX trims and above, offer a 7-ich TFT LCD screen that shows a digital speedometer as well as analog instruments for the tachometer, fuel level and engine temperature.
A bigger 8-inch touch screen is available and this offers navigation, SiriusXM Traffic with real-time road information updates, a premium Infinity audio system, SiruisXM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, vehicle settings and UVO eServices, Kia’s next generation of infotainment and telematics.
Other available features include company’s first-ever programmable power liftgate, a redesigned panoramic sunroof with a one piece power-operated shade, integrated 2nd row sliding sunshades, available dual ventilated air-cooled front seats, a 115-volt power inverter, and illuminated door handle pockets.
For the 2014MY, the Sorento will get a range-topping SX-L trim level that offers Napa leather-trimmed seats, wood-trimmed steering wheel, self-leveling Xenon headlights, 19-inch chrome wheels and other upscale features.
