The all-new 2014 BMW 4-Series Convertible finally made its debut ahead of the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. As expected, the car features the same design language seen n the 4-Series Coupe and promises to set new standards in terms of dynamics, elegance and driving pleasure. Comparing it with the outgoing 3-Series Convertible, the new 4-Series Cabrio is visibly larger in width, track and wheelbase.
The 4-Series Convertible features a three-piece retractable hardtop that is distinguished by advanced soundproofing with its “noise-absorbing” headliner. Inside seats feature integrated seatbelts and are electrically adjustable as standard.
Still, the standard seats and the optional sport seats with recessed head restraints can be equipped with neck warmers for the driver and front passenger. Just like the 4-Series Coupe, the 4-Series Convertible is available in the Sport, Modern and Luxury lines as well as with an M Sport Package.
Pricing starts at $49,675 for the 428i Convertible and at $55,825 for the 435i Convertible.
BMW Series 4 Convertible’s interior is one that combines exclusivity, elegance, and an athletic appeal. By making sure that the controls are positioned around the driver in an ergonomic manner, access to the vehicle functions is optimized. Its doors have been designed in such a manner that all the lines meet at the rear area.
Further, BMW utilized bright color combinations for the model’s door and the side panels to give it that two-tone effect. Combined with the hardtop cover, the Series 4 Convertible gets that “boat deck” look. Mainly due to the wrap-around design of the interior, passengers inside the cabin are all able to have that open-sky driving experience.
Moving to the exterior, the design language used on BMW’s latest offering is what gives it an elegant and distinct profile to reveal balanced proportions, especially when the top is positioned down. Once the hardtop is up, the roofline gets a profile much like a coupe, even without the B-pillar. Composed of three pieces, making this retractable hardtop even more unique is the use of cutting-edge soundproofing which comes with its very own headliner that can absorb noise.
No matter what the weather condition may, even in winter, passenger comfort and exceptional quietness are guaranteed. Without a doubt, the sound-absorbing headliner, unlike the previous model, can lower the wind noise by as much as 2 dB.
Looking closer on the interior roof, not only is it fully lined but it has lights integrated to it. As such, it helps the Series 4 Convertible get that atmosphere one would expect from a premium sport coupe. Should the top be positioned in a downward manner, it is stored in the vehicle’s trunk. The usual unload and load assistance function allows the folded roof and even the trunk lid to be moved up.
Not only is easy access assured but even ample storage space is guaranteed as well. Even if the hardtop is placed down, stowing large and bulky items, like golf clubs or luggage, remains to be convenient.
