Upcoming biopic stars Hugh Jackman as Enzo Ferrari

He is best known as Wolverine. And after almost two decades (17 years to be exact) and nine movies portraying a vicious, emotionless mutant, Hugh Jackman has announced that Logan will be his last movie in the Marvel series. Sad news for all the Marvel fans. But that doesn’t mean he’s ending his acting career.

So what’s in store for him next?

Well, there have been reports that the Australian actor will be playing a totally different character in an upcoming biopic, as he takes on the role of Enzo Ferrari - an Italian motor racing driver, and the founder of Scuderia Ferrari Grand Prix. I guess there won’t be any slashing of heads and gruesome scenes for Jackman this time.

Hugh Jackman will be portraying the early life of Enzo Ferrari, from his racing career, to the time he establishes his company. The 48-year-old actor will be working closely with Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who will play Enzo’s wife, Linda. The actress has starred in films such as Prometheus and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

This biographical film has been developed on-and-off in the past 17 years, and was initially a partnership between Michael Mann, and the late Sydney Pollack. Mann, an Oscar nominated film maker, is also the main director for this. The film mainly focuses on the fierce rivalry of two of the biggest race car companies, Ferrari and Maserati, as they fight for supremacy back in the 1950s with both racing for the World Championship.

So, Hugh Jackman, as a man behind the wheels? Can he portray Ferrari’s life and at the same time, veer from his long-time mutant character, Wolverine? Some of us may think he is perfect for the role, but others may question that. Well, let’s just hope he doesn’t crash the Ferraris he’ll be driving in this film.

In fact, there were rumors that Christian Bale, who a lot of us know as Batman, was originally cast for the role. However, due to a requirement to gain weight, he had to let go of the role.

And that’s how the role was awarded to Jackman.

On another note, reports back in 2015 said that Robert De Niro will be playing Ferrari’s character. But in a different film, and as an older version of the entrepreneur. And also that it will be focused on the later years of his life, as a CEO, until his death. So we are still unsure whether Jackman will only be filming one chapter of Ferrari’s life.
