Louis Vuitton has created a customized collection of luggage for the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid. It includes two travel bags, a business case and a garment bag. Likewise, the luggage range’s understated carbon-black of this luggage range is in harmony with the colors of the BMW i8, boasting of a sophisticated look thanks to the checkered Damier pattern and a laser-etched Louis Vuitton signature.
The black and electric blue used in the microfiber lining takes cues from the trademark brand colors of the BMW i8 while bag handles are made from dyed natural leather. All items in the luggage collection feature leather name tags and the Louis Vuitton padlock, with the exception of the garment bag. Just like the BMW i8’s passenger cell, the bags and cases are made from carbon fiber, making the collection not only lightweight but also extremely sturdy.
Carbon fiber has been used by Louis Vuitton to create a special textile due to its great robustness and strength, great for enduring the rigors of travel. To ensure optimal use of space, the luggage items were tailor-made to fit perfectly into the interior. The Weekender GM i8, with both hand and shoulder carry straps, is tailor-made to fit into the boot, while the Garment Bag i8 is well-suited for the rear shelf.
The Business Case i8, meanwhile, matches the shape of the rear seats. The small Weekender PM i8 is designed to rest on its surface. Starting April 1, 2014, the Louis Vuitton luggage series could be availed on request at selected Louis Vuitton stores around the world -- Munich, Milan, London, Paris, Moscow, Dubai, New York, Los Angeles.
The styling of the BMW i8’s body is as revolutionary as the hybrid plug-in sports car concept. Signature BMW aerodynamics, light design, and effectiveness are all communicated in the vehicle's dimensions, outlines, and body designs. The 2+2-seater is instantly perceptible as a BMW i model and a next-generation sports car.
The configuration of overlying and intersecting shapes gets added accent from the vehicle's colour structure that also adds to the undeniable look of the BMW i8. This principle of layering lets aerodynamic shapes be encircled in an advanced styling package, while strongly shaped wheel arches attract attention to the broad track of the BMW i8.
The compact build distinguishes both the electric motor and combustion engine and lets the front and rear areas of the vehicle have a mostly low-slung style. As a result, its vibrantly stretched sides are highlighted. The doors that open forward and upward much like wings add intrigue to the race car design in the BMW i8.
A distinctive feature of all BMW i cars is the black belt. In the i8, it forms into a V shape from the hood and reaches back above the roof into the rear of the vehicle, where it outlines the central part of the rear apron.
At the front, the black belt is surrounded by the body-coloured apron and side panels, and at the rear, it is overlaid with roof pillars that appear to float that reach over the rear lamps. Another component of the separate BMW i design motif is the streaming flow shape of the side window style.
On the BMW i8, this streaming flow shape also creates a path followed by the air between the lowering roofline and the character outline lifting through the rear section of the vehicle's sides to the rear spoiler’s lip.
