Mercedes-Benz Style is showing the world at the Monaco Yacht Show that elegance and finesse of Mercedes-Benz could also be brought into other areas of life aside from the automobile.
Its presence at the international boating event is highlighted by the unveiling of two new premieres that fully shows how contemporary luxury typical of Mercedes-Benz Design of Sensual Purity could also be experienced on the water and air.
Anchored in Monaco's harbour at Pier T (berth T17bis), the “ARROW460 - Granturismo" features a revolutionary interior that fuses the benefits of a sporty, open boat and the spaciousness and privacy of a luxurious trunk cabin cruiser.
A result of cooperation between Mercedes-Benz Style and Silver Arrows Marine (SAM), this state-of-the-art motor yacht -- could accommodate up to ten passengers. Featuring large side windows that can be retracted and windscreen that can be raised, the ARROW460 – Granturismo allows passengers to sit comfortably while experiencing a sense of sitting in the open.
Presented as an Edition 1 model – with its maiden voyage made in April 2016 – the motor yacht offers a high level of comfort, thanks to a separate multi-functional console and a luxurious bathroom. Adding to the luxurious character of the interior is the use of wood trim all throughout.
The grain of the eucalyptus wood tags on the overarching forms of the interior lining is seen to highlight the overall flow of the yacht’s interior. Its floor is covered with a sustainable composite material, further refined by an elegant color combo and a flowing décor.
In addition, the yacht’s glazing makes use of a new technology that allows electronic control of light transmission, just like that of the Mercedes-Benz Magic Sky technology. This technology also allows the silver glazing to be seamlessly integrated in the yacht’s overall silhouette. SAM chairman Ron Gibbs remarked that the ARROW460 – Granturismo combines maritime engineering artistry with Mercedes’ charismatic styling and high level of elegance.
He noted that that by fusing the design idioms, technologies and ideas of the maritime and automotive worlds, they managed to create a new standard for motor yachts. SAM will commence production of the yacht in the next few months, and begin initial delivery in the second half of 2017. The ARROW460 -- Granturismo has been on exhibit at the Monaco Yacht Show.
Also at the event, Mercedes-Benz Style and Lufthansa Technik are making a virtual 3D presentation of the final interior design of a VIP cabin for aircrafts made for short- and medium-haul flights like the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 737 family. This luxurious cabin could accommodate 16 VIPs, and is amazingly larger than the usual interior of an aircraft.
This was achieved by replacing the traditional separation of ceiling, wall and floor by an elegant spiral layout, with the interior appointments fitted homogeneously and organically – just like that of a DNA helix.
Moreover, since the individual spatial elements now flow into one another, the aircraft now features new, independent zones sans the usual seat and wall layout. This VIP cabin features a wide, open welcome zone that includes a galley and a kitchen as well as a private room and a bathroom. Located just behind the lounge and dining areas is a separate room with entertainment and information technology, as well as guests' private area.
Interestingly, the bedroom and the bathroom – with a free-standing shower -- are separated by transparent walls. A large, luxurious bed that features a concave, upholstered headboard serves as the focal point of the bedroom. The VIP cabin is provided with elegantly detailed furniture that seemingly integrates with the aircraft’s interior as well as windows cleverly concealed by black panels, as inspired by the screen design of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
These panels feature the Mercedes-Benz Magic Sky technology, which allows them to be dimmed electrically to transparent from black. In addition, these panels could be integrated with screens and touchscreen units for infotainment system.
Wieland Timm, Vice President Sales VIP & Special Mission Aircraft at Lufthansa Technik AG, commented that the new cabin design is targeted towards customers in the VIP and VVIP sector seeking innovative and astonishing design solutions for their aircrafts.
He added that the modular concept that the partners have developed should prove to be an ideal solution for the most discerning demands. Visitors could view the virtual 3D presentation at Lufthansa Technik and Mercedes -Benz Style’s stand at the Monaco Yacht Show near the "Parvis Piscine" main entrance.
A scaled physical model of the cabin -- as well as samples of the materials used as interior appointments – is also presented at the show. Gorden Wagener, Head of Design of Daimler AG, quipped that the ARROW460 -- Granturismo and the VIP cabin marks the effective transfer of the brand’s philosophy of Sensual Purity from the car to the ship and aircraft. He added that the collaboration resulted to products with perfect contemporary luxury that mixes hot and cool.
