BMW released official photos of its M4 GT4 race car

BMW recently held its year-end celebration in Munich, Germany. The same motorsport event had on display the upcoming BMW M4 GT4. It was then wrapped in camouflage to conceal its design but an official image was also released afterwards.

BMW’s new racecar will take part in the “24 Hours of Dubai “ slated on January 2018. It will be tested extensively starting next month in preparation for its official racing debut. Deliveries are expected to begin around third or fourth quarter next year.

The M4 GT4 Coupe would be the next in line to BMW’s M235i Racing model. The entry-level racecar was first introduced in 2014 and has at least 170 examples built.

According BMW Motorsport, the M4 GT4 will take its cues from the M6 GT3 for its pedal box, brakes and seat design. Several automakers have their own versions of the GT4 racer. Aside from BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG GT, there’s a track ready Porsche Cayman, McLaren 570S, Ford Mustang and Aston Martin Vantage GT4.

BMW also said that the new racecar has been designed to comply with various GT4 competitions held in North America, Asia and Europe. To make it more cost efficient, BMW has retained the production version’s 3.0-litre twin turbo engine.

In fact, the specs of the production model are almost similar to the GT4. The race-ready M4 GT4 will use the same carbon fibre hood as those of BMW’s M4 GTS special edition model.

BMW’s latest racer will be fitted with high performance rear wing, splitter and exhaust to deliver optimum downforce. Carbon fibre will also be used to build its doors to reduce more weight. Since its first year, the M6 GT3 has brought BMW many reasons to celebrate. Jens Marquardt, BMW’s Motorsport Director looks forward in placing its newest model in the upcoming competitions.

He added that the car would take part in two races that will go along with the Motorsport’s comprehensive test program. By next year, the prototype model will be developed and tested to ensure that the new BMW M4 GT4 delivers optimum performance and driveability.

This will include many hours of test in Dubai’s racetracks, which will commence its 24-hour race this January. But since its still in the early stages of its development, we won’t see it compete until 2018. Nevertheless, BMW’s expert team of developers will ensure it is ready to perform when that day arrives.
