IWC Schaffhausen becomes Official Engineering Partner of Mercedes AMG Petronas

Article by Christian A., on May 10, 2012

Starting January 2013, Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen will be the Official Engineering Partner of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team. This isn’t the first time for IWC Schaffhausen and AMG (the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz) to collaborate. They had actually entered a partnership deal in 2004.

But with the new Mercedes AMG Petronas alliance, there’s a need to push the limits of precision engineering. Since 1868, IWC Schaffhausen has been making luxury watches. The brand is known for its thirst for perfection and technical innovation in the design and engineering of their timepieces. These values are also what the team believes in.

According to Ross Brawn, Team Principal of Mercedes AMG Petronas, the company considers it a “privilege” to find another company that has the same principles and with a similar desire for “absolute perfection.” Brawn added that he believes that its partnership with IWC Schaffhausen will lead to huge benefits.

Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen commented: “The partnership with Mercedes AMG Petronas will enable us to share our passion for high-level engineering, our quest for ultimate perfection and our aim for top performance with a global audience through the medium of Formula One. This is a win-win situation for everyone involved. Both of our companies attach importance to craftsmanship and innovation, and are driven by a pioneering spirit that underpins all we do. We are looking forward to being part of the Mercedes AMG Petronas team and the sport of Formula One.”
