Nissan is out to field its Nissan GT-R LM NISMO against some of the best LMP1 cars in world at the 2015 Le Mans. Two Nissan GT-R LM NISMOs will also headline the carmaker’s bid for the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship with a full factory effort of two LM P1 cars.
The Nissan GT-R LM NISMO is a product of Nissan’s LM P1 program launched in East London, near the Japanese carmaker’s new global digital hub.
The announcement of the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO’s participation at the 2015 races were graced by ACO President Pierre Fillon; Nissan’s Chief Planning Office and Executive Vice-President Andy Palmer; NISMO President Shoichi Miyatani; and NISMO Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales Darren Cox.
The Nissan GT-R LM NISMO’s participation at Le Mans will mark the carmaker’s return to the event.
Miyatani remarked that the design and build of the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO is a global project “with its DNA firmly rooted in Japan.” He said the team responsible for the unit is made up of engineers and technical crew from Japan, the United States and Europe.
He acknowledged the presence of serious competition in the LM P1 races, but remarked that Nissan is determined to make its cars competitive against their rivals. He noted that they decided to take the GT-R name to Le Mans since the GT-R symbolizes the ultimate in Nissan’s performance, adding that for the carmaker’s LM P1 is the ultimate test.
