The excitement intensifies for fans of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 racing car as pictures have finally been released of this model. The engine used is a 6.3-liter V8, similar to the road car. However, it has been tuned to deliver about 600bh -- a figure that many race organizers consider acceptable.
It is mated to a six-speed racing gearbox with steering wheel mounted paddles, and an integrated multi-disc locking differential. In addition, this racer is much lighter than the road car. The car has also been modified to be more aerodynamic.
The GT3 racer gets a new front bumper with a splitter, a bonnet with a central cooling air vent and wider front and rear wings. It also has cooling vents in the side wheel arches and the sideskirts.
Other changes are that the underbody is now smooth, and a rear diffuser and an adjustable rear aerofoil are installed. The C-pillars house the standardized filler pipes for the fast-refuel system. The car is fitted with double-wishbone suspension of forged aluminum at the front and rear.
The following parts were also made to be adjustable: the springs and shock absorbers, the suspension height, the stabilizers, the track width and camber. For improved handling, the car has a rack-and-pinion steering with a more direct ratio and speed-sensitive servo assistance.
The brakes were also adjusted for racing. Volker Mornhinweg, chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said that the GT3 version is made in response to the customers' demand for a "car designed for these attractive motor sports series." The interior of this racer has been stripped out. Pricing information has yet to be announced.
