The Renaultsport R.S. 01 race car made its debut in Moscow back in August with the announcement of the World Series by Renault. Few days ago the Renaultsport R.S. 01 made its track debut at the Jerez racetrack in Spain and at the wheel was no other than Alain Prost. The well-known French driver was impressed by the vehicle’s performances and said that this is a new step forward for Renault.

The first deliveries will be made in March 2015 but over 58,000 spectators were able to hear the distinctive sound and see the dynamic qualities of the R.S. 01 during its first demonstration.

If you don’t remember, you better know that the R.S. 01 is powered by the same engine as the Nissan GT-R, a 3.8-liter V6 twin-turbo that produces 500 hp and 600 Nm of torque. Moreover, the engine is bolted to a seven-speed gearbox developed by Sadev.

According to Renault, the racing car arrives with a new suspension design featuring a conventional double wishbone layout adopted with pushrods and Ohlins dampers. Moreover, it arrives with 18-inch wheels that hide the 380 mm carbon brake discs developed by PFC Brakes with six-piston calipers.

Renaultsport R.S. 01 is Renault’s newest statement of its passion for motorsports. A new racing car with spectacular styling and excellent performance, the R.S. 01 features a design influenced by aerodynamic downforce and inspired by concept cars.

The technical specs of the new R.S. 01 reveal Renaultsport’s expertise at its best. For instance, the new R.S. 01 employs a carbon monocoque that weighs less than 1,100 kg as well as an engine that delivers over 500 hp. With these specs, the new R.S. 01 could reach a top speed of more than 300 km/h. Starting in 2015, the R.S. 01 will be available for fielding at the Renaultsport Trophy, a new championship that serves as a springboard for the professional GT and Endurance championships.

Patrice Ratti, Chief Executive of Renault Sport Technologies, called the new Renaultsport R.S. 01 as a racing car with extraordinary design and is a symbol of Renault’s passion for motor sports. He added that the stunning design lines on the new R.S. 01 exude the car’s ambitions, as made possible by the efforts of the design team led by Laurens van den Acker.

Ratti added that the new R.S. 01 is packed with groundbreaking systems from Renault Sport Technologies, as aimed towards achieving an advanced level of performance, and ultimately a thrilling experience for both the driver and the public. He described the new R.S. 01 as a marriage between the performance of Formula Renault 3.5 and the beauty of Renault DeZir.

Alain Prost, Renault Ambassador for motorsport, portrayed the Renaultsport R.S. 01 as a spectacular race car in the purest tradition of GT. He added that the R.S. 01 – with its high-level sporting abilities –exemplifies the expertise of Renaultsport, and its ability to develop race cars with the potential to become GT or Endurance champions.

Since new Renaultsport R.S. 01 is fitted with a spectacular design inspired by concept cars, it is a visually exciting car even at first glance. Set out to be one of the most efficient GT racers in the world, the new R.S. is a result of taking on two goals: to become an iconic Renault vehicle, and to better perform on the track via a constant pursuit for aerodynamic efficiency.
