For its second full rally season, Scion Racing brings a new Scion xD in the Rally America National Championship. There are seven events that driver Andrew Comrie-Picard and the team will participate in. It starts on January 25 to 26 with the two-day Sno*Drift Rally in Atlanta, Mich.
For the new season, the Scion rally team has prepared a new xD race car that was modified to meet the difficult courses and tough competition. The 2013 car includes modifications such as all-new suspension, better weight distribution, dog engagement transmission and higher horsepower.
Steve Hatanaka, Scion marketing and special events manager, said that Scion Racing is “ready and thrilled” to join the 2013 Rally America National Championship. He also said that this series will surely be a competitive and exciting one with the merging of the xD subcompact, a superior team race team, along with Andrew Comrie-Picard, one of the best rally drivers ever.
It was in 2012 that the Rally xD team accomplished its first full season in the Rally America National Championship. After joining in six gruesome events, the team took second place in the series’ two-wheel drive (2WD) category. Comrie-Picard said that the Rally xD team has worked hard so that the new car will be equipped for the first race. He also claimed that the xD is the “best it has ever been.”
Scion is known for its innovative external features along with its simple surfaces and front to rear sharp lines. The modern concept is applied to its accentuated wheel flares, large tires, wide stance, and thick muscular body. Aside from these, they also have cues that make the xD distinct. These include its horizontal headlamps, a long and narrow back window, side mirrors with built-turn signals and an integrated rectangular lower and upper grille.
For better handling and comfort, engineers created a short and wide frame in mind for the xD. Moreover, it also has features for increased durability and a comfortable ride. Located at the front is the L-arm type MacPherson and on the rear is the torsion beam suspension.
Another amazing feature is the xD’s powerful stance that’s on the 16-inch steel wheels and 195/60 R16 tires. With this, the three all-new standard wheel covers will be shared with the all-new xB and customers will be given an option to choose from these. Moreover, xD has also a front ventilated disc and rear drum brakes.
Clean and Modern Interior
Innovative, clean and comfy – this is what the designers emphasize in dealing with the interior style of Scion. Located in front of the driver is the instrument panel with simple dash features, the cluster-digital clock on the center and what flows down to the center is the HVAC and the audio controls. Merged into one circular gauge on the instrument panel is the xD’s distinctive and radar-like speedometer and tachometer. Found on the centralized gauge are the indicator lamps, odometer, and the LCD fuel gauge.
