BMW has unveiled its new 328d Sedan at the 2013 New York International Auto Show to pave way for the next rush of BMW Advanced Diesel models in the United States. The 328d will be powered by BMW’s 2.0-liter TwinPower diesel 4-cylinder engine that provides 180 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque that will be available from 1,750 rpm.
The engine in the 328d Sedan allows it to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just over seven seconds. The engine will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 328d’s preliminary highway fuel economy figures are estimated to be at 45 mpg. The 328d Sedan will be available in rear wheel drive and also with BMW’s advanced all-wheel drive system, the xDrive.
328d rear-wheel drive and 328 xDrive will be offered alongside the 328d xDrive Sports Wagon. All three 328d versions are due in the US in fall of 2013 as 2014 models. BMW Advanced Diesel models have already demonstrated to enthusiasts in the US that diesel power is well suited to The Ultimate Driving Machine.
The introduction of 2.0-liter TwinPower diesel 4-cylinder engine in US will allow BMW Advanced Diesel models to offer outstanding levels of torque and fuel efficiency. The rear-wheel-drive 328d Sedan is estimated to have preliminary fuel economy figures of 32 mpg city/45 mpg highway/37 mpg combined.
BMW Advanced Diesel technology includes Selective Catalyst Reduction that allows the new 328d models to become true clean diesels. Just like the luxury levels that come with any other model in the BMW 3 Series, the 328d models will come with similar levels of standard equipment featured in the 328i gasoline models. Offered as options as Luxury, Sport and Modern Lines as well as M Sport.
The all-new BMW 3-Series Sedan is the first in the compact sports sedan type and throughout the years, it has become the symbol of the elegant appearance, dynamics and well-balanced performance of the BMW. With its dramatic and exquisite lines, the sixth model generation of the world’s top-selling luxury car accentuates the sporting quality of the brand’s mid-size model.
Although the all-new BMW 3-Series has emerged in all sizes unlike its predecessor, it maintains a flawless combination of both luxury and comfort. As in former generations, the sedan’s dynamic segments are formed by the sweeping bonnet, long wheelbase, short front overhang, and set-back greenhouse quintessential of BMW.
Striking front end with precise contours and multi-faceted surfaces
The wedge structure of the brand-new 3-Series’ silhouette and its broader track (an additional 37/47mm at the front/rear) highlight the outgoing vibe of the new BMW. By precisely highlighting the vehicle’s width, the multi-faceted surfaces of the expressive front end grant the BMW 3-Series a sportier look than ever before. A broad, squat rendition of the upright, slightly forward-slanting BMW kidney grille accentuates the posture of the all-new BMW 3-Series.
LED accent lights situated like eyebrows above the impressive twin headlights with corona rings (if xenon headlights are specified) provide an additional ferocity to the quintessential BMW focused image. The headlights are now stretched out up to the frame of the kidney grille, fusing the headlights and grille of the all-new BMW 3-Series Sedan into a single functioning unit and increasing significant prominence to the vehicle’s broad-set posture.
BMW 3-Series supersedes the central air intake of its forerunner with two bigger intakes, which are situated below the headlights to the outer edges of the front end and give more depth to the car’s sporty look. The far left and right of the main ducts are tiny vertical intakes that add to the formation of the “Air Curtain.” This ground-breaking technology enhances air flow around the front wheels, intensifying aerodynamic efficiency and lowering the cost of fuel consumption at higher speeds.
