2014 Jeep Cherokee replaces the Liberty, will make official debut in New York

The all-new 2014 Jeep Liberty/Cherokee will debut towards the end of March at the New York Auto Show, according to The Detroit Bureau. Jeep CEO Mike Manley himself confirmed that the new crossover will be presented during the show. As you may know already, the name of the new crossover was changed from Liberty to Cherokee.

In fact, markets outside of North America have referred to the Liberty as the Cherokee. Chrysler hasn’t given a comment on the debut date or its name change. It’s actually quite expected that its debut will be made in the New York.

From the four-year product map of Fiat-Chrysler, we learned that the Liberty replacement will be presented this year. So it would have to be the New York show since it’s the last remaining show in the U.S. before the end of the season.

Jeep also has had several major model debuts in New York. For example, the 2010 Grand Cherokee was introduced at this show in 2009. Several details have been divulged about the upcoming 2014 Liberty/Cherokee.

It will feature the same CUSW platform that was used on the 2013 Dodge Dart. However, Chrysler and Jeep officials said that the new SUV will be a serious off-roader, in comparison to the car-based models of this brand in the past.

In addition, the new Liberty will be the first model in Chrysler’s lineup to be equipped with an all-new, ZF-sourced nine-speed automatic transmission. There’s no mention of the powertrain offerings yet but it’s believed that a 3.2-liter version of Chrysler’s Pentastar V-6 will appear on the options list.
