Genesis Motors, the luxury vehicle branch of the South Korean automaker Hyundai, is hoping to venture into a new market- the electric run vehicle territory. For years, Genesis only offered sedans but now the game is about to change. Here to pave the way is the futuristic Genesis GV80 SUV.
The South Korean automaker has long hinted the pubic that it is keenly interested in entering the electric vehicle market, with big companies like Ford and Tesla in the same race for producing e-vehicles. Up until now, rumours have been flowing off the shelf that Genesis is gearing up to recreate a pure e-vehicle or a hybrid one. At the recently held 2017 New York Auto Show, all eyes were on the GV80 Fuel cell concept with a metallic finish that offers a subtle glimpse in what the future holds for the car consumers.
This fuel cell powered exclusive SUV is based on the Genesis' Athletic Elegance design and the GV80 will serve as a predecessor to a whole new future lineage of e-vehicles that Genesis is yearning for. The Genesis Athletic design was previously introduced in the G90 forerunner in the year 2015. Manfred Fitzgerald, Genesis Chief, remarked that the GV80 Concept is considered by the company as the most significant breakthrough that paves the way for further expansion of their vehicle line-up.
But as of now, there's no guarantee on how this concept will perform in the future, and if this SUV will ever make it into the dealers and the consumer's hands. There have not been any previous reports regarding a plug in hydrogen powertrain due to the fact that the price in producing 2 powertrains would be ridiculously steep, and the need for 2 powertrains is kind of unnecessary since they are not fit for each other.
GV80 SUV sleek and elegant exterior with a chic swag sports both an architectural and down to earth influences. The eye catching crest grille with a diamond inspired mesh insert and jewel-ish LED headlights represents its bold front fascia combined with one of a kind outboard intakes that transmit air to the front wheels and side rockers. Same goes with the rear fascia that also emits an elegant feel with its fiber optic rear lamps and premium tail that have a rather distinctive night time look. The Genesis' design team also paired the sweeping roof line with side pillars to purposely elevate its shape.
The exceptional design does not stop here as the interior of the GV80 is highly attractive with a neatly styled cabin that uses diamond tufted leather and architecture suede combined with swanky aluminium and real slate ash wood on the full length console found in the center. The GV80's dash is equipped with 22 inch OLED infinity display that works with an integrated circular controlled with rotary knob and glass touchpad with handwriting identification.
Genesis is still mum on the hydrogen fuel cell tech used by the GV80, it has been hinted that it will do further research on the positive benefits of fuel cells and other alternative green powertrain techs for their upcoming Genesis releases.
