During the 2018 New York International Auto Show, Alfa Romeo brought in the special edition models of the Giulia and the Stelvio. The Nero Edizione packages will now give the sedan and SUV a dark makeover to make them look a bit more stylish. Only the models with the 2.0 liter turbocharged models with 280 horsepower (209 kilowatts) will exclusively be getting the said upgrades.
Both Nero Edizione models will come now be getting a Dark Miron (as Alfa Romeo calls it) finished grille surround. The same colour can be found on the mirror caps and exterior badges too. Shadowy trim surrounds the headlight bezels, while gloss black pieces surround the windows. Moreover, Alfa gave the wheel caps a new monotone badge, while the brake calipers come in black, red, or yellow. Later, there will be a set of dark exhaust tips that will join the package, but they will not be available when the package is first launched.
The special edition Giulia and Stelvio Nero Edizione get a number of individual upgrades as well. The Stelvio gets a Dark Miron applique on the roof rails and the rear fascia. Also, the SUV now sits on a set of 20-inch aluminum wheels in Dark Miron. The Giulia, on the other hand, has its own set of 19 inch wheels that are finished in the Dark Miron colour.
The Giulia and Stelvio both have been big successes for Alfa Romeo, including in the United States where the brand does not really have a strong presence. All in all, Alfa Romeo has delivered about 150,722 vehicles last year alone - that is actually a 62 percent boost over the 2016 figures. In the United States, the brand moved 12,031 units, which equal to a 2,232 percent growth - thanks to the new sedan and SUV.
As we inch towards the future, expect Alfa Romeo to have more updates for both the Giulia Nero Edizione and the Stelvio Nero Edizione. One of the things we know is that the Giulia, for instance, will get a third engine option that will slot between the 280 horsepower 2.0 liter turbo and the 505 horsepower (377 kilowatts) biturbo V6 in the Quadrifoglio. Its 350 horsepower (261 kilowatt) engine will reportedly be a more highly tuned version of the existing 2.0 liter powertrain.
In other news, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio was named 2018 Crossover of the Year by Popular Mechanics’ Automotive Excellence Awards at the recent New York Auto International Auto Show. Also, all Giulia and Stelvio models feature best in class horsepower, 0 to 60 miles per hour, top speed, power to weigh ration, and near 50/50 weight distribution. Of course, what comes with this is the unmistakeable Italian styling too.
