2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition celebrates the 65th anniversary of the Corvette

Article by Christian A., on April 11, 2017

Sixty-four years ago, Chevrolet introduced the very first Corvette. And to celebrate its 65th anniversary in 2018, the company decided to launch a special edition C7 at the upcoming auto show in New York.

Only 650 units of the Carbon 65 Edition will be produced - and that number does not need further explanation as it is pretty obvious why. Though the American package is limited to 650 units which will be sold globally, it is not as limited as the Japan-only Heritage Edition Grand Sports, at only five units. The Corvette Carbon 65 Edition will be available on the 2018 Grand Sport 3LT and the Z06 3LZ.

June 30, 1953 was when the very first Corvette came to life. Built at the Flint factory in Michigan, all 300 units were finished with white exterior paired with a red upholstery. But Chevrolet is veering from this colour scheme (for this model, at least). And for the 2018 special edition, the colour palette will be way different from the original Corvette.

There must be a reason why this one is dubbed “Carbon 65 Edition”. Well, the package will be made mostly of carbon fiber inside and out - from the front and rear spoilers, the side sills and quarter ducts. These carbon fiber details will then be paired with a set of gloss black wheels and a Ceramic Matrix Gray paint job for the body. This new shade apparently replaces Sterling Blue in the colour palette.

Fender strips and door graphics are added to give it a distinct look, which is exclusive to the Carbon 65 Edition of course. Just in case your peers do not notice the carbon parts, or the blue brake calipers and glossy black wheels. The logo of Carbon 65 is found on the door sills.

Inside the Carbon 65’s cabin, you will find a carbon rimmed steering wheel and jet black Competition Sport seats in suede. 2018 Corvettes will now be equipped with a standard HD radio and a rear view camera. Optional features are a Performance Data Recorder and a Spice Red convertible top. Customers can opt for the Grand Sport if they prefer a ceramic brake package sans the Z07 performance pack. The Magnetic Ride Control on the Stingray is also available as a standalone option.

The Carbon 65 special edition is set to make its debut this week at the New York Auto Show, alongside a range of 2018 Corvettes. The limited package will have a base rate of $15,000 and will be available starting this summer.y
