For more than a year, Jeep has been preparing to launch the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and it has finally arrived and will be displayed at the 2017 New York Auto Show this week. The model will be in showrooms by the fourth quarter of this year, so you’ll have to wait just a little longer to drive this mean machine.
So what makes this Cherokee so special? Well, it has got a 6.2 liter supercharged Hellcat V8 engine that yields 707 horsepower (527 kilowatts) and 645 pound-feet (875 Newton-metres) of torque. This power makes it possible to drive the monster, which weighs 5,363 pounds (2,433 kilograms), to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 3.5 seconds, plus it has a top speed of 180 miles per hour (290kph) that can go a quarter mile in just 11.6 seconds. Talk about a supercar in an SUV’s body. In fact, the company did say that the Trackhawk is the quickest and most powerful SUV they have produced ever.
2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is available with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The four-wheel drive can vary the front-rear torque split depending on the drive mode in the Selec-Track system: including 40-60 in Auto, 50-50 in Snow, 30-70 in Track, and a few other modes. The Custom mode can let you adjust it to your personal preference. Each mode controls the transmission, suspension and steering.
A set of 15.75-inch (400mm) Brembo brakes and 13.78-inch vented rotors aid it in slowing down. Jeep claims this setup can transition the SUV from 60mph to a stop in just 114 feet.
The Trackhawk has a visually appealing design with its sculpted hood. The extra slit on the face helps with cooling, while the rear comes with 4-inch black chrome quad exhaust tips for some accent.
Inside the cabin, you will find a set of Nappa leather seats for the standard model. However, customers can opt for a Signature Leather Interior Package that is available in two shades: Dark Ruby Red or all black. You also have an option to get the dark crimson seat belts.
Furthermore, Jeep built a cockpit that is focused on the driver’s needs. A Fiat Chrysler 8.4-inch infotainment system is available to track the driver’s performance, exclusive only with Trackhawk. Drivers can time their laps, take screenshots, and save them in their USBs. This is also compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto.
There has not been any announcement of the price of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. However, we are expecting the model to have a base price of $80,000 as the lesser Grand Cherokee SRT starts at $67,000. Production of the model will take place in Detroit, Michigan.
