Selling SUVs is one of the most successful strategies for luxury automakers. This is most likely the reason why Cadillac is again, going to introduce another SUV to its range. The 2019 Cadillac XT4 arrives at the 2018 New York Auto Show, and will be placed beneath the existing XT5, when it comes to size and pricing, as it becomes available this fall.
When you first see the XT4, you will notice that it is generally sleeker than the XT5, but part of it is also because it is smaller. To be more specific, the XT4 has a shorter wheelbase (by 3.1 inches) compared to the XT5. Its overall length is then 8.4 inches shorter, while its height is almost two inches down. With a smaller car, expect it to weigh less than its bigger brother as well, now weighing at 3,660 pounds compared to the XT5’s weight of 3,985.
One thing that the 2019 XT4 brings with it would be the design. The highlights include the chrome trimmed black mesh grille up front, with L-shaped LED running lights, the LED taillights and the subtle spoiler. The hood gets some creases that give it a bulge, while roof rails and black lower plastic cladding hint that this XT4 can do everything. It also sits on a set of 18 inch wheels that come as standard while 20 inch ones are offered as an upgrade.
Inside the cabin, you will find things like the three spoke leather wrapped steering wheel, an air ionization system, wireless phone charging, and a rotary controller for the Cadillac User Experience infotainment system that is operated by touch screens. Everything is displayed on an 8 inch screen, while there are added features like USB ports, three 12 volt outlets, a 360 degree camera, and Cadillac’s Rear Camera Mirror.
Even if the XT4 is physically smaller than the XT5, it still comes with a lot of space, and that is the 22.5 cubic feet of capacity in the trunk when the rear seats are up, and the 48,9 cubic feet space when lowered.
What makes the XT4 run would be the 2.0 liter inline four engine rated for 237 horsepower and 258 pound feet of torque. This engine is paired to a nine speed automatic transmission, which can be had in either a front wheel drive or an all wheel drive. It is also said to predict fuel efficiency of 25 miles per gallon city, 30 mpg highway, and 27 combined.
Pricing for the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will start at $35,790 including destination, which also means that it is a little over $6,000 cheaper than the XT5. We can expect to see the XT4 in United States dealerships starting in the fall, but interested customers can already place an order by the end of March.
