At the 2018 New York Auto Show, Kia did not just reveal the luxurious K900 and the updated Optima. Alongside these two models, the South Korean automaker also decided to show off the refreshed 2019 Sedona van before it goes on sale towards the end of the year.
Under the hood of the Sedona will be a 3.3 liter V6 with 276 horsepower (206 kilowatts) and 248 pound feet (336 Newton metres) of torque. The engine, however, is paired with an eight speed automatic instead of a six speed automatic that you can find in the outgoing model. Kia expects the change to boost fuel economy and give the van smoother acceleration. The Kia Sedona also offers a three step Variable Induction System (VIS) that improves engine breathing by adjusting the intake runner lengths to optimize engine torque under different load conditions.
As we look at the Kia Sedona’s exterior, you will notice some changes on the front and rear fascias, but the changes are so subtle that they are quite difficult to spot. The lower part of the car looks a little more angular in shape, though the tweaks do not really make a huge impact on the minivan’s styling very much. From the mid-level EX grade, the vehicles get a button for activating power sliding door on the handle. The top two trims, the SX and SXL, will feature LED headlights. The range topping SXL also features skid plates, foglights, and 19 inch chrome wheels.
Furthermore, it is the Sedona’s cabin that boasts most of the Kia Sedona’s upgrades. For instance, the existing assistance suite now features Driver Attention Warning, which monitors the driver’s fatigue level. The system will then warn the driver if it detects that he or she is too tired. Up front will be a newly available wireless device charger and sunglasses holder between the seats.
Rear passengers can take advantage of the upgraded Rear Entertainment System. Unlike the outgoing model where it had a single overhear screen, they can now take advantage of 10.1 inch touchscreens on the back of each front seat, so each of the passengers can watch their own shows. These displays feature smartphone mirroring, where occupants can pair their internet-enabled device with the screen and go online. In the cargo area, there is also a newly available USB charging point where you can charge your devices.
To keep things simple, the new 2019 Kia Sedona now has new visual upgrades that have given it a bolder appearance. As for the mechanical bits, it now has an 8 speed automatic that improves seamless driving experience and aims to increase fuel efficiency.
