Lincoln’s luxury SUV, the Aviator, is the automaker’s newest vehicle to date. We were lucky enough to get a teaser of this a few weeks ago. It is absolutely gorgeous but do not be impulsive and place an order for one just yet. And that is because Lincoln said that this model is just a preview of the actual vehicle that is meant to arrive next year. So now, we can’t confirm yet whether this one is a concept or a prototype.
Joy Falotico, Lincoln Motor Company president, says that the Lincoln Navigator continues to turn heads and bring new clients to the brand. They are also pretty confident about the Aviator’s elegant design, state of the art technology and refined plug-in hybrid option, believing that this will draw even more clients to the Lincoln showroom. Among these customers are families who are looking for a high-performance three-row SUV.
It should be noted that this is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid. According to the automaker, it will likely be paired with a biturbo V6 electric motor as opposed to a modest gasoline engine. Lincoln says that the Aviator will be at par or may even surpass many of the supercars on the road today.
And if you think of that, it sounds very bold for an automaker to say that about an SUV, considering the fact that the marque is not really known to specialize in performance. But with the fact that the Aviator is based on the rear wheel drive platform, there is a huge potential for greatness.
The Lincoln Aviator is likely to be positioned into the mid size three row SUV segment, with a handful of luxury features that come with functionality. For instance, customers can use their smartphone as a vehicle key.
It has also been fully equipped with Ford’s new Co-Pilot360 driver assist and safety systems, while also featuring a Suspension Preview Technology. There is also a forward looking camera that scans ahead and adjusts suspension settings depending on road conditions.
But then again, we must take note that the Aviator is just a preview model, so we cannot assume that all these features will reach the production stage. Lincoln says that the Aviator does not only represent a specific model, but instead indicates the direction in which they are headed. Based on what we are currently seeing, it seems like Lincoln’s future is quite promising, don’t you think?
