Besides the 2016 Malibu, Chevrolet also presented its 2016 Spark at the 2015 New York Auto Show, a vehicle that promises to offer greater efficiency and refinement as well as new connectivity features. The American manufacturer says that the 2016 Spark will be offered in more than 40 markets around the world and it is built on an all-new architecture for more sophisticated driving experience.
Compared to the outgoing model, the new Spark features a slightly longer wheelbase, while the overall height was reduced by 1.6 inches (40 mm). As a result, the lower profile reduces aerodynamic drag in order to improve efficiency.
When it comes to design, the 2016 Spark features the same design philosophy seen on the current Chevrolet models, such as the dual-port grille flanked by large, elliptical headlamps. Moreover, there are three new colors available: Toasted Marshmallow, Kalamata and Splash. The interior was updated too and designers were able to match the lowered roof height by adjusting the hip-point for the seats.
Upgraded materials and greater attention to details enhance comfort and durability. There is also a new instrument panel design fitted with an advanced liquid crystal display (LCD), trapezoidal air outlets that replace the round outlets found on the current model. MyLink radio comes with a capacitive-touch color display, featuring icon-based interface which is similar to the smartphones or other devices. The new volume control and other buttons improve the system intuitiveness.
When it comes to safety, the 2015 Spark features a stronger body structure, 10 airbags as standard which include driver/front passenger knee airbags, roof rail side airbags and seat-mounted thorax/pelvic airbags.
Other safety features include Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Spot Alert, as well as a rear-vision camera system and rear park assist. General Motors will produce the 2016 Chevrolet Spark from globally sourced parts at its Changwon, South Korea assembly facility. In the United States, the 2016 Spark will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2015. [source: Chevrolet]
