This is the Smart Forstars Concept, the latest creation from the brand owned by Daimler, which will be unveiled later this month at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. To Smart Forstars is in fact a SUC (Sport Utility Coupe) and promises to offer room for two people but also plenty of stowage space.
As you can see from the photos the concept is quite sexy and comes painted in the extravagant colour "alubeam rouge" that creates an appealing contrast to the matt metallic titanium colour of the tridion safety cell. Same colour is also found at the interior where it is used to accentuate the lines.
The seats are trimmed with high-quality white bag leather with exquisite white piping. Perforated leather in the door panelling forms a further sophisticated contrast and emphasises the high quality of the materials used.
Brabus also contributed to this concept as the Forstars uses company’s electric drive, delivering 60 kW, 135 Newton metres of torque and a top speed of more than 130 km/h.
Even with just one glimpse, it is easy to tell that the forstars is part of the smart family. However, the forstars is quite unique, featuring a number of distinct and stunning features that could possible define smart’s future design language.
On the front end, the forstars’ friendly yet aggressive face is defined by the rhombic styling of the headlights – a design also reflected on the tail lamps. Its indicators and daytime running lamps are illuminated by outer rings made of several light emitting diodes. smart designed these headlamps to seemingly push forwards like arrows.
Positioned just above the headlamps are “eyebrows” that give the units a new U-shaped look. This appearance is complemented by a transparent red sun visor located above the windscreen, thereby providing the new forstars a more squat road stance.
Interestingly, the rear lights can be opened when needed, especially when needing to recharge the vehicle. This is particularly because the charging socket for the high-voltage battery is located inside the right-hand tail light. The left-hand tail light could accommodate a beverage can.
In terms of dimensions, the new smart forstars features a wheelbase (at 2,470 mm) that is 603 mm longer than the smart fortwo. Its tracks on the front and rear (both 1,475 mm) are now wider than on the smart fortwo by 193 mm and 90 mm, respectively. Likewise, the new smart forstars feature extremely short front end rear overhangs, with all four wheels positioned at the outer corners of its body.
