Although nobody expected, as the 2014 Elite was unveiled, Lotus amazed us today with the 2013 Esprit Concept, introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The new car looks impressive and promises to be the ultimate supercar, paying tribute to the legendary Esprit.
The car uses a powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine delivering up to 620 hp and 720 Nm of torque, capable to push it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds and to a top speed of 330 km or 205 mph.
The engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT. Regarding the debut, the new Lotus Esprit will make its debut in the market in Spring 2013 and will carry a price tag of around £110,000 or $173,000. The car that has a total weight of 1,450 kg promises to be a rival for many supercars on the market. Furthermore, it will be fitted with an optional KERS hybrid technology seen on the Formula 1 cars.
Described as the “Ultimate Super Car” by Dany Bahar Chief Executive Officer of Group Lotus, the 2013 Lotus Esprit commands the spotlight. Once in the background of famous movies, it now commands centre stage.
The shape and design of the car pull you to it. It’s fair to say that the designers have found the perfect balance between modernising the vehicle whilst not losing the Esprit’s roots. The new lightweight alloy structure is smooth and hypnotic in its design.
The aerodynamics is cleverly used to boost performance using its low and wide dimensions to its advantage. The mid-engine rear wheel drive is guaranteed to stimulate all the senses. The performance matches its beauty and uses exceptional engineering to build a powerful and impressive machine.
Lotus is confident that this vehicle will be a flagship success for them and we tend to agree.
