2015 Skoda Fabia: first sketch revealed ahead of Paris Motor Show debut

Article by Christian A., on July 17, 2014

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the first official sketch with the 2015 Skoda Fabia! Set to arrive at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, the third-generation Fabia borrows the same design line found on the new Skoda Octavia and promises to be a big step forward for the Czech manufacturer owned by the Volkswagen Group.

The interior will show a revamped dashboard, larger touchscreens and the Mirror Link system that offers a clone of your smartphone on the vehicle’s display. Skoda’s new Fabia is expected to receive the 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine that powers the smaller Citigo, that delivers 60 hp or 75 hp.

Still, we will also see the 1.4-liter three-cylinder engine that delivers 75 hp or 90 hp. The 1.4-liter TDI engine replaces the 1.2- and 1.6-liter powerplants. Skoda is expected to offer also the 1.2-liter four-cylinder TSI engine with 90 hp and 110 hp.

The engines will be offered with a five-speed transmission (1.0-liter engine) as well as with the popular six-speed gearbox or the automatic seven-speed DSG.

Frank Welsch, Skoda Board Member for Technical Development, quipped that the new Skoda Fabia starts the evolution of the Skoda design language, as it marks the first time that a Skoda vehicle adopts the design elements of the VisionC concept. He remarked that new Fabia is fitted with sporty proportions as well as a modern and crisp design, noting that the new model inherits some of the design genes from Skoda’s rally cars to become the most emotionally rich Fabia so far.

The next generation of the Fabia impressively demonstrates Skoda’s increased emotional charisma, thanks to its crystalline shapes, balanced proportions, sharp edges and precise lines as well as a characteristic interplay between light and shade. Compared to its predecessor, the new Skoda Fabia is shorter by 8 mm, wider by 90 mm and lower by 31 mm lower.

Increased width and distinctive features like the distinctive slatted grille, wide headlights, crystalline glass, and the Skoda logo on the bonnet's 'nose' make the front end of the Fabia more imposing and more confident. The visual unison between the grille and the lights is apparent in the new Skoda, which also features two characteristic beadings flowing from the outside to the inside of the bonnet.

Meanwhile, the dynamic flanks of the new Fabia reveal a crisp tornado line as well as the so-called wing line. The flanks also reveal slim pillars, an all-new set of wheels as well as a stunning contrast between light and dark shades.
