Most of Audi’s sporty fans are already looking forward to the unveiling of the new R8 at the upcoming 2018 Paris Motor Show this month. As it turns out, Audi has another surprising prepared for its sports-oriented customers – the all-new Audi SQ2 high-performance compact SUV.
It is about time that the Audi Q2 join the premium brand’s S-Series. But to distinguish the SQ2 from a standard Q2, the S-Series model features a large, octagonal Singleframe grille with eight upright double bars while the outermost edges of the two air inlets are joined by a full-width front splitter. As standard, the SQ2 features LED headlights and LED rear lights with dynamic indicators.
Other distinguishing details for the new Audi SQ2 include a long roof edge spoiler, a diffuser insert with four exhaust tailpipes, contoured trim strips in the lower section of the doors as well as aluminum-look exterior mirror housings. Around 10 wheel designs and sizes are available for the new SQ2 like the standard 18-inch alloy wheels with size 235/45 tires or the optional 19-inch wheels with 235/40 tires. Large brakes are fitted -- 340 mm on the front and 310 mm in the rear – with calipers featuring S badges.
As standard, new Audi SQ2 is finished in ibis white, although the customer can choose from other colors in the palette, such ara blue, Daytona grey, floret silver, glacier white, coral orange, mythos black, quantum grey and tango red and Vegas yellow.
Inside, the new Audi SQ2 features an Audi virtual cockpit that show S-specific start screens when the ignition is switched on. The seats are trimmed in leather/ fabric as standard, although leather/Alcantara mix or fine Nappa leather is optional.
Being an S-Series model, the new Audi SQ2 boasts of a higher level of performance, as made possible by its powerful 2.0-liter TFSI engine and the quattro all-wheel system. The engine is tuned to deliver 300 PS of max output and 400 Nm (295.0 lb.-ft.) of peak torque available between 2,000 and 5,200 rpm. This allows the new SQ2 to sprint from zero to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds, and reach a governed top speed of 155 mph.
This is supported by the S sports suspension that lowers the body by 20 mm as well as by the standard progressive steering which power assistance features an S-specific characteristic.
Audi will unveil the new SQ2 in metal at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. It will be available to order in the United Kingdom in late 2018, wit first deliveries set to commence early 2019.
