Citroen unveils the DS3 Cabrio ahead of 2012 Paris Motor Show

Article by Christian A., on September 2, 2012

Citroen released the first images and details for the brand new DS3 Cabrio, which will have its world premiere later this month at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. At 3.95m long, 1.71m wide and 1.46 m high, the new Citroen DS3 Cabrio promises to retain its compact and agile proportions.

The new soft-top roof is now a new source of personalization and according to the official press release this will be available in a range of colours and designs that add to the model’s unique personality. The interior can also be customize and Citroen offers six decors: grey, Brillant black, white, Carbotech, Infinite blue and Moondust grey.

For those who don’t know, decors on the dashboard strip, air vent surrounds and gear stick knob are also colour-coded to the body paint and soft-top.

The 2013 DS3 Cabrio can take its roof down in just 16 seconds and up to speeds of 120 km/h or 75 mph. The roof can be opened in three positions: intermediate, horizontal and total.

When the roof is opened, an aerodynamic deflector net springs up to provide optimum acoustic comfort by deflecting air currents and preventing air buffeting. More details regarding the engines and specs to be revealed at a later date.

New DS3 Cabrio from Citroën continues to have that distinct personality this hatchback is known for. Not only does it have the familiar dynamic and compact proportions but it even has those bold styling choices. These include the shark fin B-pillar, “floating” two-tone roof, and even the sculpted front section that has that unique LED light signature.

The rear section also has the 3D LED light signature which is truly stunning. This design of the tail light was inspired by those on the brand’s concept cars known as Survolt and Revolte. The middle portion of this light is made up of 31 LEDs shaped in a rectangle having semi-reflecting mirrors that appear to reflect the light to “infinity.”

Meanwhile the upper portion of this light, which has a 15-LED blade, not only helps highlight the 3D unit but also functions as brake lights and side lights. The design also has the DS logo placed in an embossed black setting and finished in chrome. There are also other chrome details on the exterior like the side rubbing strips as well as on the area across the boot lid’s top.

This detailing puts emphasis on the captivating design of this vehicle. Meanwhile the rear windows have a dark tint which help enhance the style further. Since the DS range is known for its wide range of customization, Citroën made sure to retain this quality for the DS3 Cabrio by offering seven colors for the body and three color-coordinated roof design resulting in a total of fourteen combinations.

With a selection of nine different styles for the wheels, customers will be able to display their own personality even more. Customers can also choose between the alloy 16-inch wheel or the 17-inch version, both of which come in different designs and colors.
