Ferrari 458 Speciale Spider debut confirmed for 2014 Paris Motor Show

Ferrari’s 458 Speciale Spider was the hottest subject of this summer and as you may know already, we revealed you folks some exclusive info regarding the new Italian sports cars. Each time when we gave you more and more details about the 458 Speciale Spider, we didn’t talk about the official unveiling of the vehicle. Today we can confirm that the debut of the Ferrari 458 Speciale will take place next month at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

Our source finally confirmed the debut of the new car and also told us that private unveilings of the 458 Speciale Spider took place this month at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters. Moreover, it appears that clients are very happy with what they saw and they are even happier than they bought such a vehicle.

Previously, we announced that the production of the 458 Speciale Spider will be limited at 458 units. Now that Luca Cordero di Montezemolo steps down as Ferrari chairman and he will be replaced by Sergio Marchionne we might see some additional numbers as we know that the new CEO will gradually increase production and will not stick to the current limitation of 7,000 units per year.

Regarding the 458 Speciale Spider, this model was first shown during the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance at a private event but the Italian company refused to give any details. After that event, a camouflaged version was spotted outside the Maranello factory and was easily recognizable thanks to the stylish side sills seen on the coupe version.

According to our friends who saw the vehicle during the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the new Ferrari 458 Speciale Spider keeps the design of the coupe version but comes with a removable hard top which can transform it into a hardcore open-top sports car in just 14 seconds.

The bad news is that, due to the new removable hard top, the 458 Speciale Spider will ditch the current see-through engine bonnet featured on the coupe. In addition, the new vehicle will get two new wheel designs, a different design for the stripes, new seats, carbon fiber mats and two plaque that underlines the limited edition.

Under the hood, we will see the same 4.5-liter V8 engine that produces 605 hp at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm. Just like the coupe, we expect the spider version to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.1 seconds, while top speed will be in excess of 200 mph or 320 km/h.
