Mitsubishi officially announced today that at the 2014 Paris Motor Show it will unveil the all-new Outlander PHEV Concept-S. Two years after it unveiled the Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid electric Twin Motor SUV, Mitsubishi prepared the new Outlander PHEV Concept-S in order to propose a special package.

According to the short press release, the new Outlander PHEV Concept-S arrives with a refined interior and a new exterior design. Mitsubishi says that the concept car follows the “Sporty and Sophisticated” design line and promises to offer an unique combination of spirited 4x4 performance from its twin-motor PHEV system and superior on-road performance.

There are no words about the powertrain but we do know that the current Outlander PHEV is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as well as two electric motors that offer a combined output o 200 hp (149 kW) and 337 Nm (249 lb-ft) of torque.

The vehicle is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 11 seconds while top speed is limited at 106 mph or 170 km/h.

Using just the 12 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Outlander PHEV offers a range of 34 miles or 55 km, while using both the petrol engine and the energy stored in the battery the range is an impressive 800 km or 547 miles. In the hybrid mode, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has a fuel consumption of 1.6 l/100 km (143.5 mpg). More detail to be revealed!

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will stage the global introduction of the Outlander PHEV Concept-S at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The Outlander PHEV Concept-S is a concept vehicle founded on the Outlander PHEV 4WD SUV plug-in hybrid vehicle.

1. Outlander PHEV Concept-S Overview

The Outlander PHEV Concept-S is a concept vehicle showing a specially designed package for the production version of the Outlander PHEV. The design of the exterior and interior is a creation under the "Sporty and Sophisticated" design motif. The motif conveys drive enjoyment by producing forceful and nimble drive performance along with silent, modern, and high-quality drive performance from its Twin Motor 4WD and Plug-in Hybrid EV System.

(1) Exterior

Intended to stand for the practicality and assuring safety intrinsic to Mitsubishi Motors SUVs, the front design protects the Three-Diamond emblem with boldly chromed accented mouldings on each side, creating a 3D effect, in an added suggestion of movement. Wraparound headlights provide an additional feeling of vibrancy reaching subtly up and out.

This protective motif goes on to the rear where comparable symbolic chromed accents, crowned by lengthened combination lights, reach from the tailgate to the wings meaning to convey vivid and inventive styling as if readying the automobile for improved safety. The body colour employs a bight "Platinum White" with glass flaked finish.

(2) Interior

Contrasting the brilliant exterior styling, the "Black & Burgundy" coloured interior design scheme provides a sophisticated quality passenger area.

Specifically, the Concept-S interior styling uses meticulously executed detail to impart accuracy, class, artistry, and elegance like:

- Wood grain black trim with silver accents

- The central console styling inspired by traditional black-lacquer Japanese boxes

- Fine, soft leather, hand-embroidered by artisans along the seat upholstery
