2013 SEMA Preview: 2013 SRT Viper by Mopar

The “Moparized” 2013 SRT Viper showcases what more could be done on the ultimate super car. Viper owners share the love for customizing their vehicles using different accessories and performance parts. The race-inspired, customized yellow SRT Viper makes use of numerous lightweight carbon fiber parts, such as underhood, with an exposed carbon fiber performance cross X-Brace with a satin finish trim, as well as a decal-cut Viper “Stryker” logo in the center of the distinctive X-Brace.

Because of the X-Brace’s carbon fiber construction, it is nearly 50% lighter than the factory version, with similar strength and functional stiffness. In addition, the engine cover is using carbon fiber and aluminum, and embroidered with the SRT logo, just like the prototype aluminum oil filler cap.

A carbon fiber aero package is used to improve the performance while to improve handling, Mopar coil springs help with suspension performance. Yellow accents are used on the full black interior throughout, providing subtle touches that let the outside color get inside. The yellow exterior color is brought to the back via Sabelt hard-shell seats, which include a six-point safety harness. The interior gets a subtle, tailored feel from the seat edging, which uses black Katzkin leather with yellow accents in the perforations.

Additional touches include a Mopar billet aluminum shift knob and billet aluminum HVAC bezels and controls. It is also fitted with a carbon fiber bulkhead satchel, with a universal integrated quick-release camera mount. This is for owners who want to record their adventures with the security and convenience of a mounted camera inside the car.

In addition, the Viper is modified with bright, polished chrome door-sill guards that have the Viper logo and a race-inspired, sand-blasted aluminum Mopar bright pedal kit, with the Viper logo engraved in the pedals. Furthermore, the footrest pedal has the “Stryker” logo. The exterior upgrades include optional “Track Pack” wheels finished in hyperblack and a front tow hook as well as an LED fog lamp kit.

One big change in the 2013 SRT Viper is that because the structure has been made stiffer, the torsional rigidity has been increased by 50%. The brand also made sure to implement changes to the chassis. These enhancements were mainly those learned from racing the Competition Coupe and the Viper GTS-R. However, the most significant change would have to be the overhead-valve 8.4-liter V10 engine.

Assembled by hand and composed entirely of aluminum, a number of enhancements have been done to the engine. This includes having a new composite intake manifold that is lightweight and allows for ultra-high flow. Then there are the sodium-filled exhaust valves and the high-strength forged pistons. New catalysts have been added which help lower the back pressure and by putting in an aluminum flywheel, helps lower any of the reciprocating losses. Further, the brand revealed that the weight of the engine was reduced by at least 25 lbs.

In terms of performance, initial ratings show that output of the SRT-engineering engine is 640 hp. Peak torque meanwhile is 600 lb.-ft., clearly the highest for any naturally-aspirated engine.

The engine is then paired to the manual six-speed Tremec TR6060 transmission. However, for the 2013 SRT Viper, the transmission has been enhanced as well as it has a shorter throw shifter and the gear ratios have been made closer. Drive ratio was shortened too from 3.07 to 3.55. With all of these changes, it means that the drive has been made more engaging and the 2013 Viper SRT is able to attain maximum speed through gear six and at 6,200 rpm.
