John Pangilinan teamed up with Hyundai and will reveal a custom 2015 Sonata at the 2014 SEMA Show. Dubbed the JP Edition Sonata, the new vehicle combines the high performance aerodynamics with the striking visuals of the LA street art.
As you can see from the photos, the JP Edition Sonata arrives with standard white paintwork and a special black stripe on the middle as well as a blue contour, a new front bumper with integrated front lip spoiler and LED daytime running lights, new side sills and a new set of 19-inch Rays Gram Lights 57Getter wheels painted in black.
The engine was upgraded with a new AEM cold air intake, MagnaFlow exhaust and a Bisimoto Hot Charge Pipe. The interior arrives with Recaro Cross Sportster seats, Bisimoto custom seat brackets, Katzkin leather re-upholstery and an Alpine Electronics System built by BP Autosound.
In terms of design in the mid-size sedan segment, the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata set the bar higher when it was launched in 2009. Consumers and rival carmakers alike were quick to notice its groundbreaking design, which has decisively matured for the 2015 model year. It now features smooth, subtle surfaces as complemented by lively, crisp lines. It is heavily influenced by the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, an evolution of the original styling idiom that has come to define the Sonata's premium look as well as outstanding value.
For the 2015 model year, the new Sonata comes with a larger, more refined grille featuring a wide air intake. Simple exterior lines help indicate the sedan’s enhanced dynamic performance and human-machine connection. It also features taut, horizontal rocker panels that hint at increased stability and surefootedness of the chassis while the signature Sonata beltline has been stretched tighter to highlight its strength.
While the 2015 Sonata still features a coupe-like roofline r, it is now balanced by a larger window graphic that help underscore its more spacious cabin. The rear end, meanwhile, is marked by width-emphasizing horizontal lines. Overall, the new Sonata boasts of a low co-efficient of drag value of just 0.27 Cd.
For customers seeking a Sonata with a more traditional design, the SE variant might suit their taste. The 2015 Sonata SE is provided, as standard, with LED daytime running lights and a rear lip spoiler, as well as a chrome surround for the day light opening and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Limited version builds on these elements and adds dual exhaust and rocker panel extensions.
