Chevrolet unveils off-road oriented Trax Activ Concept at 2016 SEMA Show

Chevrolet has just commenced sales of the 2017 Chevy Trax this fall, hoping to build on the momentum that the previous model has accumulated. Now at the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Chevrolet is showing a concept of the 2017 Trax that explores further off-road capabilities for the small SUV – the Chevrolet Trax Activ concept.

The Chevrolet Trax Activ concept basically features a new front end look with a matching interior. According to Todd Parker, design director for exterior component and accessories at Chevrolet, the Trax Activ concept shown at the 2016 SEMA Show boasts of an all-new attitude thanks to its increased capabilities and a number styling enhancements.

This concept is basically derived from an all-wheel drive version of the 2017 Chevrolet Trax. To transform the production model into an exploring concept, the carmaker redesigned the SUV’s front and rear fascias. Chevrolet lifted its suspension and widened its tracks. In addition, the carmaker fitted the Trax Activ concept with 18-inch wheels from Chevrolet Accessories, wrapped with all-terrain tires.

In addition, the SUV comes with custom fender flares that don’t only provide better protection but also give the concept a more recognizable off-road appearance. Overall, these modifications allowed the Trax Activ concept to sport higher ground clearance, better approach and departure angles as well as enhanced off-road grip.

Wrapped in custom Satin Sandstorm exterior color, the Chevy Trax Activ concept dons Carbon Flash rockers and fender flares. Moreover, it features tinted headlamp and taillamp lenses as well as red tow hooks. The Chevy Trax Activ concept also comes with a Thule roof basket with a mounted custom LED light bar.

Meanwhile, the interior of the Chevy Trax Activ concept features Jet Black interior and distinct Satin Graphite accents with all-weather floor liners. The concept being displayed at the 2016 SEMA Show retains the Trax’s standard 60/40-split-folding rear seat and fold-flat front passenger seat, allowing customers to load any outdoor equipment easily.

It is assumed that the new Trax Activ concept is powered by the same engine that power the 2017 Trax – an Ecotec 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that has been SAE-certified to develop up to 138 hp (102 kW) of output and up to 148 lb-ft of torque (200 Nm) available between 1,850 rpm and 4,900 rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Trax Activ concept is among around 20 vehicles displayed by Chevrolet at the 2016 SEMA Show.

In 2015 – the first full year of the Chevrolet Trax on the United States auto market – the carmaker sold 63,303 units of the small SUV. This allowed the SUV to become the second best-selling small SUV in the US in 2015. Chevrolet is selling the 2017 Trax in over 73 markets including China and the US.

Press Release

With its urban-chic style and trail-ready stance, the Chevrolet Trax Activ concept explores a new, adventurous lifestyle direction for the popular small SUV, which features an all-new front-end appearance, revised interior and more technology for 2017.

“The Trax Activ concept is all about adventurous fun,” said Todd Parker, design director, exterior component and accessories. “We’ve increased its capability and matched it with styling enhancements that give it an all-new attitude ― it’s a Trax that’s ready to make tracks.”

Starting with a 2017 Trax AWD model, the concept suspension was lifted and the track widened, complemented with 18-inch Chevrolet Accessories wheels wrapped with all-terrain tires. The front and rear fascias also were redesigned. The combination provides greater ground clearance, improved approach and departure angles and added grip off the highway. Custom fender flares deliver protection and an unmistakable off-road aesthetic.

An accessory Thule roof basket enhances the cargo capability and the custom LED light bar mounted to it offers exceptional illumination on dark trails.

The concept has a custom Satin Sandstorm exterior color accented with Carbon Flash rockers and fender flares, as well as red tow hooks and tinted headlamp and taillamp lenses.

Inside, accessory all-weather floor liners complement the Jet Black interior, which also features unique Satin Graphite accents. The Trax’s standard 60/40-split-folding rear seat and fold-flat front passenger seat offer great versatility for hauling bikes and other outdoor equipment to a favorite getaway location.

The Trax Activ concept joins approximately 20 additional Chevrolet vehicles at the SEMA Show this week. Follow the action at, #CHEVYSEMA, @ChevroletPerformance on Instagram and Chevrolet Performance on Facebook.
