SEMA: 2017 Hurst Kenne Bell R-Code Ford Mustang excites onlookers with 750 hp, gold accents

Article by Anita Panait, on November 3, 2016

For the 2016 SEMA Show, there are a number of modified Mustangs being displayed. There is for example VMP Performance’s 2017 GT concept which due to the TVS supercharger fitted on the V8 engine allows for output at 851 hp with torque of 703 lbs.-ft. Another example is the 2017 Fusion Sport Ballistic concept done by Webasto Thermo and Comfort North America. But amidst all of the modified Mustangs being exhibited, there is one unit that stands apart from all the rest and this is the 2017 Hurst Kenne Bell R-Code Mustang. In fact, there will only be 50 units of this model to be produced.

What helps this version stand out is the wide range of gold highlights being placed on the customized body. Then there are the alloy 20-inch wheels that are chrome-plated. Though this version is based on the standard Mustang GT, the Hurst Kenne Bell has a more aggressive look and this is owed to the extended side skirts and splitter on the front with the rear section having the wing mounted on the trunk and a customized diffuser with the quad exhaust tips on each side.

On the interior, there are various changes implemented like being fitted with the Recaro body-hugging seats in the front with a leather finish and a black and pearl white combination. Complementing the seats are the matching stitching found on the door panels and the console lid. Rounding off the customized Mustang look for the interior are the Hurst floor mats.

In terms of dimension, the ride height of the 2017 Hurst Kenne Bell is lower as a result of the springs being lowered. This matches with the wheels especially if they’re being fitted with the Nitto tire sized 265/35ZR20 and the ones sized 305/30ZR20. Completing the enhancements done on the exterior are the surrounds placed on the upper grille and lower grille. The hood was redesigned as well to include dual inlets and ensure that the 5.0-liter V8 engine gets cooled air.

For the engine itself, it is no longer naturally aspirated considering that the tuners made sure to put in the supercharger 3.2-liter kit to increase the output to 750 hp from 435 hp. This is however simply part of the base upgrade package considering that this version comes with two stronger kits with the higher version increasing the V8 engine’s output to as high as 1,500 hp. For this particular model, the power generated by the engine is channeled by the 6-speed manual gearbox though on the interior one can see the short-throw cue-ball shifter that has a reverse lockout.

The 2017 Hurst Kenne Bell R-Code Mustang will be displayed during the 2016 SEMA from the opening until Friday.
