After several teasers, we have finally seen Infiniti’s newest creation. Infiniti built the Q60 Red Alpha Concept with the main intention for it to go fast. That is why it has a gutted interior and a huge drag racing parachute attached at the back.
However, during the 2017 SEMA Show, Infiniti announced that there will be a whole range of performance parts specifically for the Red Sport 400 versions of the Infiniti Q50 and Q60.
Thanks to AMS Performance, they developed a number of upgrades for the Red Alpha concept car. Customers can get their hands on most of these starting early next year at Infiniti showrooms.
Today, the automaker and the tuner have not shared much information about the engine upgrades involved. The only thing they said that caught our attention was that tuners increased the Red Sport 400’s horsepower by 19 percent and its torque output by 29 percent. That gives it a total of 476 horsepower and 452 pound-feet of torque. This output comes from a 3.0 liter biturbocharged V6 with an original output of 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet. Furthermore, the company posted on Instagram that the concept car produces 410 wheel horsepower.
That is not all. To further push the engine’s current output, AMS also has new intakes, a new intercooler, exhaust system, and a new calibration for the Q60 Red Alpha’s engine-management computer. And as mentioned earlier, most of these parts will soon be on sale at Infiniti dealers.
Upgrades on the Q60 Red Alpha are not just limited to the engine. Some of the visual enhancements are a bold red paint that has been given a matte finish. There are a few AMS Performance badges, a new adjustable carbon-fiber wing. Lastly, it comes with a set of Bogart Racing wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag-racing tires. The new cabin looks far from how it looks when its fresh from the factory, with a harness bar and two spartan carbon fiber bucket seats.
The Red Alpha concept is actually based on the Q60 Red Sport 400. And Martin Musial, president of AMS Performance said that by combining an Infiniti car and AMS Performance’s parts, it will be possible for them to unlock the driver’s full potential, and that is possible with the Q60 Red Alpha.
There are still a lot of things we do not know about the roll out of the Red Alpha to Infiniti dealerships. But it is great to know that the automaker has been working on the expansion of car parts so their customers could enjoy a better performing sedan and coupe. We will share with you more details, including pricing and many more, in the next couple of months, so stay tuned.
