Nissan announced its return at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas and that it will feature a special ‘NISMO Lounge’ at its booth. As expected, the focus of the Japanese carmaker will be on its NISMO-branded production vehicles and those attending the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show will see the 600 hp 2015 GT-R Nismo and a Nissan 370 Nismo safety vehicle after it was features in the recent Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (CTSCC) race in Austin, Texas.
According to Nissan, the global executives attending the SEMA Show will include Hiroshi Tamura, Chief Product Specialist, GT-R, Z and NISMO; and Darren Cox, global head of Brand, Marketing & Sales, NISMO.
“NISMO, a short form of NISsan MOtorsports, is the performance brand for Nissan, and it is one of the company's purveyors of "innovation that excites." NISMO offers products featuring innovative technology and high performance to a wide range of customers for street use. Those unable to attend the SEMA show can receive updates via the hashtag #NISMOLife on Facebook and Twitter.” said the press release.
Nissan debuts the GT-R Nismo with the expectation of dreams coming true while records are also projected to fall. While this model is race-oriented, it continues to deliver “factory tuned” supercar dynamics while also offering ultra-precise handling and pioneering enhanced dynamics. The GT-R has long managed to establish itself as one of the automotive world’s best performing supercars.
Through the brand’s very own motorsport specialists, Nissan was able to get many decades worth of the Nismo’s racing experience in order to create the ultimate GT-R. Powering this new model is the VR38DETT 3.8-liter V6 engine obtained from the knowledge that the Nismo gained from being part of various racing events like the well-known 24-hour Nürburgring race.
The power of the engine has been increased to 591 hp (441 kW) with torque now measured to be 481 lb.-ft. (652 Nm). Added in are the high-flow turbochargers with their large diameter, the same ones utilized on GT3 racing. Not only do the turbochargers help enhance breathing but they also optimize the individual ignition timing control for each of the engine’s cylinder.
Further, the fuel pump has been upgraded in order to enhance combustion. In terms of style, the new GT-R Nismo continues the longstanding principle followed in racing which is that function comes first followed by form. There are also different technologies, which are motorsports-inspired, fitted. This optimizes the powertrain, suspension, and aerodynamics and thus improves the performance.
It also results in a vehicle that is well-balanced and excellent whether on the road or on the race tracks. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn reveals that this is the fastest GT-R that Nissan has made. He added that given a lap time of 7:08.679, there is no question that the new GT-R Nismo takes the Nürburgring Nordschliefe’s volume production car lap record. This has long been the gold standard when it comes to high performance achievement. Nissan disclosed that the GT-R will be available to customers in Japan during late February 2014. Customers in Europe and U.S. can expect it later in 2014.
