Two new Scion cars inspired by heavy metal music as well as skateboarding will be shown at the upcoming Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas in Nov. 4-7, 2014. The first of the two is the “Scion x Slayer Mobile Amp tC,” which is inspired by and built for heavy metal band Slayer.
The band’s aggressive playing style is reflected by the exterior of the tC sports coupe. The interior, meanwhile, features amps, towers of speakers, a custom mixer and a 32-inch monitor for media playback. Slayer guitarist Kerry King remarked that the band’s fans will be excited when it is unveiled what a metal-inspired Scion tC looks like.
He said that working with Scion has provided Slayer another way to reach new audiences and inspire them to “keep going down their own paths.” Mike Vu of MV DESIGNZ is leading the build process for the “Scion x Slayer Mobile Amp tC.” The second of the new cars is the “Scion x Riley Hawk Skate Tour xB,” inspired and made for pro-skateboarder Riley Hawk.
His special edition xB merges three of his main passions – skateboarding, rock ‘n’ roll, and 70s style – via its high-end sound system, room for skateboards and classic orange and yellow striped paint job.
Hawk’s xB features bubble windows, interior wood grain paneling, an 8-track player and requisite shag carpet – thereby transforming a modern vehicle into a rolling, retro hangout spot. Leading the build process of the “Scion x Riley Hawk Skate Tour xB” is Scott Kanemura of KMA Productions.“
Hawk remarked that every element of his unit represents some part of his life. Doug Murtha, vice president of Scion, said that SEMA represents the “ultimate opportunity” to look at Scion vehicles. [source: Scion]
