Dacia Duster Facelift Review: Evolution, Personality and 100% Off-Road

Article by Christian A., on November 4, 2013

In each Romanian's mind, Dacia is one of the inland brands of highest pride today. It's course has been spectacular since Renault took over the lead. We can say that is one of the best export products that brings honor abroad.

Developers have taken the plunge and launched some interesting models. One of them is Dacia Duster, which registered a brilliant success. Dacia Duster was first launched in 2010 and, so far, over 450,000 customers have been convinced by the car.

New Dacia Duster Facelift made its debut in September, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and has a starting price lower than the previous model, ie €10,900 . Duster Facelift retains all the qualities of its predecessor, introducing though a new design that can be observed in details, such as a new grille, a new lower-set air intake and redesigned headlamps that integrate daytime running lights. The SUV character of the car is enhanced by new roof bars, which bear the inscription Duster.

Moreover, the aluminum rims with ' dark metal ' look, 16- inch , give improve the SUV character. At the rear, the new model comes with new taillights which follow the front line style.

In terms of safety, Dacia Duster Facelift offers as standard ESP and side airbags, along with ABS. Concluding, the car has all the advantages to be craved by anyone who wants a very good quality/price ratio. New Dacia Duster Facelift is a good-looking car, reliable, stable and with a good level of consumption, everything embedded in a modern design, both at exterior and interior.

Interior Design

If the exterior design and quality engines fully convinced us, Dacia Duster Facelift surprised us pleasantly also at the interior. For those who do not know, Duster Facelift presents a new interior, featuring a completely redesigned dashboard with a center console, framed by two vertical rods that are designed to emphasize the robust look.

Benches display a new design that offers more comfort for passengers. Rear seatback was also reinforced. Media Nav impressed us with a color touch screen of 7 inch (18 cm), Bluetooth connectivity and navigation system. Moreover, Dacia Duster Facelift offers optional rear parking assistance, a very useful feature for a crowded city, where the lack of parking places is a problem.

Another plus for the new interior is the reposition of the window switches, which are now found on the door panel where they belong. For those who want more from the new Duster, Dacia offers cruise control, available as an additional option course. We’ve tested it and it works perfectly, especially on the highway. Duster offers also more interior space, a loading capacity of up to 475 liters, and is able to carry objects with a length of up to 2.70 m.

Interior storage space offers a volume of up to 3.3 liters. Dacia also reduced the interior noise and when cruising at 130 km/h (80 mph) on the highway we saw the dramatic improvement.

On the first day of the test drive, we had the pleasure of driving a Dacia Duster Facelfit powered by the 1.5 dCi engine with 110 hp and a maximum torque of 240 Nm.

Using a six-speed manual gearbox, the front-wheel drive model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 12.2 seconds and has a top speed of 169 km/h (105 km/h). We had the privilege to test this model in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d' Azur region and although the Duster didn’t reach its top speed, the car surprised us.

Fuel consumption rwas 6 litres/100 km, a decent figure considering that we tested it on all types of roads. On the next day, I got acquainted with the Duster Facelift powered by the new four-cylinder 1.2-liter TCe that develops 125 hp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm.

Using a six-speed manual gearbox, this Duster model can reach 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds and has a top speed of 175 km/h (108.7 mph). With this model we registered a fuel consumption of 5.5 litres/100 km.
