The BRZ may be one of Subaru’s best-selling cars, and it seems like it is also the automaker’s favourite. The reason why I said that is because the Japanese car maker has just revealed another variant of the BRZ, the STI Sport. The special edition model will have some extra updates here and there, and will only be sold exclusively in Japan. Subaru Tecnica International signed this latest project and said that whoever gets behind the wheel of this fun-to-drive sports car will experience “pure handling delight”, as it delivers superior handling and ride quality compared to the normal BRZ. This model will make its debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show just a month from now.
Just because it is a Sport trim, does not instantly mean that it will have more power. In fact, it does not. However, it does get the same exclusive suspension tuning and body rigidity that all BRZ versions have. The STI Sport trim is currently the highest specification of the coupe to date and that it will be available in a bespoke Cool Grey Khaki paint. Being the range topper, it is natural that it gets additional tweaks in and outside the car.
Those who are interested in the BRZ STI Sport can already sign up at Japanese dealerships. However, unlike regular vehicles, it will not be sold on a first come, first serve basis. The company will hold a lottery, and will randomly select names of people who will be eligible to purchase one. We should find out more about this as the automakers announces the procedure and the full mechanics of the lottery at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 25.
Since not everyone gets a chance to buy this model, it makes us wonder whether this will be a limited edition model. And to this day, Subaru has not mentioned anything about it yet. But we do know that the one in the photograph will only be limited to 100 examples.
When the BRZ STI makes its debut in Tokyo next month, it will share the spotlight with the Viziv Performance Concept. And we have a feeling that this concept will give us an idea of how the next generation WRX will look, as well as its WRX STI counterpart. Both these models will get inspiration from the Impreza and are scheduled to be launched just before 2020.
BRZ enthusiasts should never be worried as it seems like there will not be a shortage of the model anytime soon. Especially if Subaru continues to surprise us with production models like the STI Sport. Though this model will not be available in the United States market, the closest model they could get to this would be the 2018 BRZ tS.
