Mitsubishi Motors Corporation plans to unveil during the 2015 44th Tokyo Motor Show its newest concept car. The MITSUBISHI eX is a compact SUV that displays the automaker’s latest technology in electric vehicles.
This system has a new design concept for its Dynamic Shield and includes a wide range of additional technologies that offer exceptional driving pleasure from a compact crossover package. The brand’s booth for the show will not only feature the concept car but will also exhibit its main theme which is Driving Beyond – Another Step Forward With SUVs and Electric Power.
The main idea for this concept car is to have a compact SUV that is completely powered with electricity. It is targeted to be a successful model that will permit the brand to enter this fast-growing market. Its many technologies include the all-wheel control and innovative electric-powered technologies.
These are then combined with other technologies like the active safety, automated driving, and connected car technology. From looking at its exterior and interior, it becomes apparent what course Mitsubishi Design is headed.
Generally, the concept car induces the image of a very sporty crossover that drives around the town as it combines both elegance and the style of a “shooting brake” with its compact SUV lines. The “shooting brake” refers to a coupé whose flowing style has been combined with that of a hatchback.
This particular term actually originated from the horse carriages that the British used for hunting. As mentioned earlier, the Dynamic Shield at the front end has had its design reinterpreted. Meanwhile, the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV has a chassis that shows not just the technical features of the Twin Motor 4WD system but those of the Plug-in Hybrid EV as well.
There is also a virtual community diorama that uses the V2X system in the brand’s booth. This is the same system that supplies the PHEV’s drive battery with electric power. The effect is that it manages to visualize just how versatile electric-powered vehicles are and what possibilities it can offer.
Mitsubishi has been undergoing research and development in the area of electric vehicles for 50 years. This has led to the creation of this concept car whose story will be told with a panel display. There will also be real-life examples that are expected to support the display.
These include a cross-country 500 Outlander PHEV Baja Portalegre rally car that has been custom-wrapped with i-MiEV in order to celebrate those 50 years. Beside this display of the MITSUBISHI eX are other models that carry eco-technologies like those powered with Clean Diesel engines as well as minicars.
We’re also expecting to see the 2015 Smart Mobility City, which features the Outlander PHEV, to better explain the great value of an electric vehicle even when it is stationary. A V2H system is linked to the Outlander PHEV in order to reproduce the energy flow typical in the life of a family that uses an EV/PHEV.
The SMC 2015 will also hosting the Automated Driving Demonstration. It will also exhibit the Outlander PHEV test car that has been developed by MMC in partnership with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. The brand hopes that the test car will give visitors the experience of riding a driverless vehicle.
Not only that, it will also allow the visitors to get a feel of its different functions. One such function is the traffic jam navigation which allows the car to maintain its space while in congested traffic that keeps it apart from other slow moving vehicles.
This is made possible by ultrasonic sensors that are able to detect if there are any vehicles in front of it. This is the same sensor that helps with the automated remote parking which is helpful when parking in a row of already parked vehicles.
