2014 Essen Motor Show: ABT Sportsline presents the Audi RS6-R Avant

Article by Christian A., on November 29, 2014

Although the Audi RS6 Avant is already a powerful sports car, ABT Sportsline decided to take the German vehicle to the next level and unveiled its latest creation at the 2014 Essen Motor Show. For those who don’t know, the standard version arrives with a 4.0-liter TFSI biturbo engine that produces 560 hp (412 kW).

Still, thanks to the ABT Engine Control unit and a specially adapted stainless steel exhaust system, which includes a Y-pipe and sport-type catalytic converter, the total output of the engine was boosted to 730 hp (537 kW).

In addition, the RS6-R from ABT Sportsline received a new set of 22-inch ABT DR alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance Dunlop tyres. Other design highlights include a new front lop, air inlet covers, side sills as well as new mirror covers and a new rear air diffuser with integrated exhaust tailpipes.

ABT also offers an adjustable sprint kit in order to be sure that you will not damage the impressive body kit.

For the interior, the German tuning company offers a new steering wheel with LED shifting lights and carbon fiber shift paddles, new floor mats, embroidery at the head rests, RS6-R lettering and ABT applications in red carbon fiber.

Audi A6

Considered as the better choice in the business class, the Audi A6 has been updated to offer more. Both its Avant and Sedan versions are now more powerful, more efficient and more sophisticated, as made possible by new engines and new transmissions, as well as new headlights and a new infotainment. Likewise, a wide array of new features has been added into the new A6 allroad quattro and the S6, S6 Avant and RS6 sport models.

Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member for Technical Development at Audi AG, remarked that the carmaker is writing the next chapter in a success story with the new Audi A6, which he described as a representation of the brand’s innovative technology and premium claim. Hackenberg added that the new Audi A6 is setting new standards in several technical fields. For instance, its lightweight body makes use of aluminum components. It is also served by powerful yet efficient engines and underpinned by a sporty chassis. In addition, the new A6 is laden with advanced assistance and multimedia systems.

The new A6 models feature a design that is precise and sportily elegant, as conveyed through sharp lines, athletically taut surfaces and emphasized horizontals. As part of the model refresh, the new A6 features tweaks on its Singleframe grille, headlights and rear lights, as well as on its bumpers, air inlets, side sills and tailpipes. Its headlights could be specified with LED or Matrix LED technologies, as combined with dynamic turn signals.

In addition, the new A6 boasts of an extremely rigid and safe body, as made viable by its intelligent composite construction concept. This concept entails employment of components made from aluminum and hot-shaped steel, making the new A6 lighter than before while offering outstanding vibration comfort and low cabin noise. For instance, the new A6 1.8 TFSI features a curb weight of just 1,535 kg (3384.1 lb).

ABT Sportsline Audi RS6-R Avant

When you read 730 hp/537 kW, you may first think of an Italian super-sports-car or a big truck but not of a roadworthy family or business estate. But ABT Sportsline is still able to surprise its target group and at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 will present its latest Audi RS6 model, the 320 kph ABT RS6-R. “Mind you, the R stands for racy, not for rough or rude,” says CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt: “As with the normal Audi RS6, ours also provides the utmost comfort, sumptuousness and usefulness, limited to 25 cars worldwide.“

To turn this high-performance car into a refined gem, ABT uses ABT Power. This kit includes the ABT Engine Control unit, a specially developed software and a specially adapted stainless steel exhaust system – including a Y-pipe and sport-type catalytic converter – that makes for a superb sound and an even more attractive look with its two double end pipes.

But power isn’t everything. In order to make the Avant even more of a sports car, the engineers used an ABT height adjustable spring kit. Dunlop high-performance tyres specially selected for the RS6-R complete this dynamic set-up. This inviting features may make it hard for some people to accept that this racy ABT in Geneva can only be viewed while it is standing still. But that may be just as well, because it makes for a better appreciation of the extensive body kit and the lavish 22-inch ABT DR alloy wheels. Selected parts made of exposed red carbon is what all body components have in common: they can be found on the front lip with its blades, air inlet covers including flics, side skirt attachments with side blades and the rear skirt. Mirror caps, fender inserts and a rear spoiler complete the imposing look.

And since passengers would find it difficult to see their car in the rear-view mirror, ABT also “decorated” the interior with letterings and embroidery that are as discreet as they are tasteful. Carbon-shift paddels and LED-shifting lights on the steering wheel help finding the perfect gear shift moment.
