When it comes to upgrading a car’s electronic and mechanical parts, WIMMER Rennsporttechnik at Solingen is one of the few names that car owners trust. The company has been in the business, which includes clear chip tuning, engine and exhaust system conversions, for more than 20 years.
Not only are they good, they’re also compliant with MOT certification standards. Managing director Thorsten WIMMER and his team do their jobs in a 2,400 sq m. workshop. This sizable workshop is ideal for critical jobs involving engine aeration, exhaust systems, chassis techniques, sports clutches, braking systems or car accessories.
Currently, Wimmer and his team are working on an Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate. This beast has a horsepower of 510 HP, equivalent to 375 KW. Notably, the C 63 S already comes with superior accessories and upgrades. However, one of Wimmer’s tasks is to optimize the software.
To do this, the team needs to make sure that the existing control unit matches the serial data. Matching will allow the team to find the “secret reserves” in the engine to make it more powerful. Matching will make sure that no additional strain is put on the already powerful engine when it is uprated from 510 hp.
The team then turned their attention to the C 63 S’ sports exhaust system. WIMMER specializes in upgrading exhaust systems, giving them a full sportive sound. The company does this by custom-making stainsteel exhaust systems tailored for each individual car.
The exhaust systems are optimized through dynamic pressure, and come with pre-silencer and axle back exhaust. Car owners can also opt for sports cat and Y-pipe and electronic valve command. This particular C-class car now produces 640 hp (417 kW) after having been given upgrades that include a sports exhaust and cat as well as Y-pipe.
Total uprated power is at 96 kW or 130 hp. Because the combination of the wheels and tires is important in power transmission from the vehicle to the road, the WIMMER team tackles this by installing BBS type CH rims that measure 8.5 x 19 inches on the front axle and 9.5 x 19 inches on the rear axle in place of the original items.
The team also had the task of choosing suitable sport tires to ensure that no loss of power occurs when the tires connect with the road. KW coilovers were selected for their capability to hold fast to the road when cornering in high speed. A C-class has raw power, but Wimmer proved that it can still go further.
There’s only one way to find what that power is and that is to get this Solingen Company to optimize it. For more information about this particular C 63 S job as well as the other products of the company, directly contact the Solingen Company.
