When BMW first revealed its new 2-Series flagship in October 2015, all eyes focused on the German automaker. The M2 is an indirect successor to the 1-Series M Coupe yet it boasts of the same quality and comes with a powerful BMW N55 3.0-liter turbocharged engine tuned for 365 horsepower. It also comes with either a six-speed manual gearbox, shooting the coupe from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, or a seven-speed automatic for a faster acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. Although the M2 has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph, owners may opt to raise this to up to 168 mph.
The M2 Coupe began production in late 2015 and was debuted at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Ever since its first introduction to the public, rumors about a hardcore M2 GTS version has been swirling around the internet. The German automaker however is not pressured by all these rumors since interest for the standard version hasn’t waned and producing a limited version (matched with a “reasonable” limited-edition price) isn’t in their list of priorities yet.
However, for fans who just can’t wait to get their hands on an M2 GTS, aftermarket specialists are there to the rescue. Alpha-N Performance for example, has just released an attention-grabbing BMW M2 GTS upgrade package.
This second upgrade package by the aftermarket specialist takes its inspiration from none other than the M4 GTS. First of all, the standard M2 has been modified to sport a new power dome custom hood complete with a power hump similar to that of the M4 GTS. Customers are given the choice between a primed carbon fiber, exposed carbon fiber or lightweight Kevlar construct for this new hood. This part alone is estimated to have a separate cost of around €3,399 ($3,703).
The M2 GTS package also includes a prominent carbon fiber front splitter on its bespoke bonnet and a set of carbon flics adorning the edge of its side skirts; the new front spoiler comes with a €1,299 ($1,415) price tag. Depending on the customer’s preference, a choice between GT4 brake ducts or a GTS version with an adjustable air splitter is offered along with its carbon fiber front splitter. There are also additional accessories such as carbon fiber mirror caps and black kidney grilles and side skirts.
Its sides are also fitted with BMW M Competition 20-inch alloy wheels, similar to those seen on the M4 GTS minus the bright orange accents. For €1,449 ($1,578), the standard M2’s roof will transform into an M4-inspired roof with visible carbon fiber finish and a central recess.
And as a final touch for its exterior modifications, the M2 GTS package include a towering €2,099 ($2,286) M4 GTS-inspired rear wing (giving a “track-ready” vibe), a trunk lid lip spoiler, and a bespoke €999 ($1,088) carbon fiber rear diffuser (which also comes with the typical M exhaust pipes).
Aside from the exterior modifications, Alpha-N Performance’s M2 GTS package includes a power kit. This means that the 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine will receive an upgrade via an 85-horsepower boost, giving it a total of 450 horsepower. All this power is kept in check by its M4-inspired ceramic brakes. Finally, the M2 GTS package is inclusive of a fully adjustable coilover suspension from of Öhlins’ Road & Track priced at €2,995 ($3,262).
The Alpha-N Performance M2 GTS package will make its first appearance at the 2016 Essen Motor Show happening this month. Fans are already very eager to see how this aggressive tuning program turns out. Photos of the said GTS package are already circling online for those who cannot attend its debut.
