BMW i8 gets Dark Knight Edition body kit from Energy Motor

Despite the fact that the BMW i8 continues to be among the most gorgeous-looking vehicles in the market, several tuning companies always want to have a shot at this hybrid sports car. Let’s just say, this is a car we’d love to see Bruce Wayne drive from dusk till dawn for a change.

Japanese tuner ENERGY MOTOR SPORT has recently developed a BMW i8 straight out of DC Comics. According to the company, the “Dark Knight Edition” is made in honor of the 2008 superhero thriller featuring Batman. Directed by Christopher Nolan and produced by Charles Roven and Emma Thomas, “The Dark Knight Trilogy” stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Therefore, we can expect no less from a car inspired by a movie with such a high caliber cast and crew.

Like all things with the caped superhero theme, this “Dark Knight Edition” BMW i8 wears a Batman–inspired costume. Starting from its new over fender with air ducts, to the side mirror covers, rear flipper and redesigned bumper all the way to its massive rear wing, every inch is wrapped in a matte purple color.

Interestingly, it was earlier reported that the same BMW hybrid may be due for a facelift anytime. The updated gasoline-electric hybrid system should be capable of giving the i8 an extra 15 hp for a combined output of more or less 372 hp as said by BMW Blog. If ever, we can also expect a significant improvement for its current 0-62mph acceleration time of under 4.4 seconds along with some fresh styling tweaks, new chassis modifications and a new extended range battery pack. In fact, just a few days ago, AC Schnitzer another tuning specialist has also created its own carbon fiber body kit for the same BMW hybrid model.

Anyway, let’s go back to the Japanese auto tuner’s latest creation. This “Batmobile” is based primarily on a BMW i8 plugin hybrid which uses the auto tuner’s very dynamic and aggressive aftermarket EVO body kit. On the side, customers can also avail the full carbon fiber package as a pricier alternative.

Other modifications consist of a custom exhaust system, a new set of 21” Individual TYPE4 wheels in black and a red-themed leather interior. There are also some form of discreet Dark Knight motifs depicting Gotham City’s criminal mastermind. So don’t be surprised if you see the menacing Joker’s playing cards and the haunting “HA HA HA” inscriptions at the doors and along the rear panels on this one.
