Tesla Model S gets a makeover from Prior Design

Article by Christian A., on June 4, 2017

In the automotive industry, it is uncommon to see the words Tesla and tuners in the same sentence. But what’s more complicated is tuning a car that does not even have an exhaust system or engine parameters, considering that most of the time, performance enhancements are part of the tuner package, along with aesthetics of course.

And guess what? Prior Design, took their time and effort to play with the Tesla Model S, giving it their personal touch, and the outcome looks amazing. The German company specializes in the design, development and distribution of exclusive aerodynamics. They aim to create cars that combine sporty and aggressive designs with enhanced elegance. They have worked on several automobiles including Land Rover’s Range Rover Evoque 5D, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari F458 Italia, McLaren 570S, and now, Tesla Model S

Prior Design begins with a updated front bumper that has a spoiler lip built in. This instantly gives the Model S a brighter, but at the same time, more aggressive face. They stick with the theme with a new diffuser. The updated spoiler hugs the rear end of the hypercar, which supposedly reduces lift when it accelerates. We are not sure though if customers are interested in downforce at higher speeds, considering that straight line acceleration is the Model S’ claim to fame.

The car is finished with white paint that contrasts with the black accents including the Duraflex and carbon fiber side sills that have been made deeper. Combined with a set of 21-inch PD5 alloy wheels wrapped in 245/30-series tires for the front wheels, and for the rear wheels, 295/25-series tires to fit the wheels perfectly. Overall, you’ll notice a slight drop in height with an H&R electronic lowering module, which adds an even sportier feel.

To make things even better, Prior Design also adds some details to the Model S’ interior. In the cabin, unlike other Tesla models, you will be welcomed by Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery, with bits and pieces of carbon fiber to add more class to the already elegant car - keeping up to their principles.

The Prior Design-tuned Tesla Model S turns out to be a fabulous combination of elegance and performance. Many tuning companies often tweak the car to a point wherein it look amazing, but it doesn’t look like the original version anymore. But in this case, Prior Design managed to balance both sides by keeping the updates very subtle - the car still looks original, and at the same time, you’ll know that this car can perform at first glance.

PRIOR-DESIGN Tesla Model S P100D shines in Monaco

Tesla, the innovative American company founded by visionary Elon Musk, has revolutionised the electric car world. By offering a dynamic looking machine with good performance and a respectable eco-image, along with a radically different business model for retailing it, Tesla turned the electric car into a cool lifestyle object that also attracts tuners and petrol heads!

Taking up the challenge to make the sleek Tesla S P100D look even more attractive, tuning specialist PRIOR-DESIGN recently launched their aerodynamic styling kit for this car as the highlight of their first time participation at Top Marques Monaco.

Billed as most exclusive supercar and lifestyle show in the world, Top Marques Monaco is a compact but popular event with a backdrop of super yachts and lavish properties owned by ultra high net worth individuals.

The PRIOR-DESIGN conversion gives the P100D a sportier and more dynamic appearance to match its sensational performance. Able to catapult itself to 100 km/h in just 2.4 sec, yet eke out a range of around 620 km on a single charge, the Tesla S has turned the electric car world on its head.

A new front bumper, incorporating a spoiler lip, gives the car a more aggressive face, while at the rear, the new valence with diffuser and rear spoiler deliver a more purposeful look and help to reduce lift at speed. Deeper side sills complete the aerodynamic kit, which is offered in either Duraflex or carbon-fibre.

To fill out the cars wheel arches, PRIOR-DESIGN used their dynamic looking ten-spoke PD5 forged alloy wheels in 9.0 and 10.5x21-inch sizes front and rear respectively, and shod with 245/30 ZR21 and 295/25 ZR21 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres. Finished in metallic dark grey, this wheel/tyre combination stands out in stark contrast with the cars white paint. Finally, an H&R electronic lowering module helps the handling and gives the car a lower more muscular stance.

To add a finishing touch to the interior PRIOR-DESIGN gave the Model S P100D sumptuous Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery, set off with carbon-fibre trim inserts.
