When the Mercedes-Benz X-Class was unveiled in 2017, it was no doubt a representation of luxury among pickup trucks. While Maybach represents the ultra-luxurious side of Mercedes-Benz, the X-Class isn't one. However, a Polish company that goes by the name of Carlex Design is offering to convert the new X-Class into a Maybach-like pickup in terms of looks and features.
Carlex Design noted that the Mercedes-Benz X-Class deserves to be called as a luxury pickup. Not only that the pickup offers a drive comparable to a sports utility vehicle, it also delivers a smooth comfortable ride. In addition, the new X-Class, in its standard guise, isn't just coz and comfortable, but is also equipped with features found in premium cars. Thus, Carlex Design made the X-Class a subject of a new conversion program that could be availed for as low as EUR105,000. To prove its point, the Polish specialist created an example.
At a glance, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class by Carlex Design is undeniably an X-Class but with a twist. The typical grille of the X-Class has been replaced by that of a Maybach. In particular, this conversion employs a grille from the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet.
Furthermore, a carbon body kit was fitted on this X-Class, as created by Pickup Design. This carbon body kit – made employing new molds and consists of 15 elements – includes the a bonnet cover, front and rear bumpers, a roof spoiler and wheel arches, as well as rear light frames. The grille isn't the only element derived from the Maybach S650 Cabrio, as the wheels of the X-Class by Carlex Design are also sourced from the Maybach model.
Wrapped in porcelain white and chocolate brown finish, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class by Carlex Design features carbon mirror covers, carbon Style Bar by Pickup Design, tonneau padded with teak, as well as styling stickers and Limited Edition emblems.
Carlex Design acknowledges that luxury starts in the interior, which is why the Mercedes-Benz X-Class conversion boasts of a number of solutions also employed by Mercedes-Benz and Maybach. For instance, the X-Class by Carlex Design makes use of original Nappa Porzellan leather that is also used in Maybach latest models. Furthermore, the X-Class by Carlex Design makes of full grain leather.
Its Recaro Sportster seats, benches and door panels are wrapped in leather, while the headliner is made of Alcantara with an embroidered flower motif. Leather and wood are employed for the dash board. Aside from the wooden seat back, the X-Class by Carlex Design also features wooden inserts, laser-engraved motifs, leather trim as well as reshaped steering wheel. Additional emblems and laser-engraved motifs are also found in the luxurious cabin of the X-Class by Carlex Design.
